Review: Quaker Chewy Girl Scouts Thin Mints Granola Bars

I mentioned in my previous Quaker Chewy review of one of their Girl Scouts products that I found it strange that they just wouldn't refer to the flavor by it's actual cookie name (Samoa).  Well, that's not a problem in the case of today's review as Quaker happily dubbed this by it's actual cookie name right on the front of this box of Quaker Chewy Girl Scouts Thin Mints Granola Bars.  The fact that they will put the name on the cookie on the front of this box and will not put the name of the cookie on the other box lends weight to my crazy theory that "Samoa" is somewhat controversial.  Anyway, this box of eight bars cost me $2.50 at Kroger and each 0.84 ounce bar has 100 calories packed in.

As always, the box hides the mystery of what this will look like and also what is included in the bar.  It's a standard Quaker Chewy bar with chocolate chips, mint and a swirl of chocolate on the top. The bar itself also smelled strongly of mint, but this was really pretty much like any Quaker Chewy bar.  You've seen one of them, you've nearly seen them all.

One of the reasons that Quaker Chewy is successful is because they don't change their granola mix from bar-to-bar.  It's the same old sweet and chewy granola and that's no different here.  Within that granola are the aforementioned chocolate chips, which are also sweet and melt nicely.  They are then punctuated by a nice burst of mint that is quite noticeable, but not too much.  Pretty much just like the named Girl Scouts Thin Mints cookie.  Just like the last one of these, this is basically the cookie mixed with Quaker Chewy granola.  Not a lot else to say here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If you like Thin Mints and I do, you'll like this granola bar, so I give it a BUY IT rating.  Thin Mints aren't my favorite, but I know they are the favorite of many people and if one of those people is you, it would behoove you to go out and buy a box of these because I think you'll love it.  If you are just kind of like "whatever" to Thin Mints, I think you'll still like this.  It's tasty enough that it pretty much can cross all barriers.  Call it the United Nations of chewy bars.  Okay, I think I've just officially lost it.  That was WAY out there.  Time to get fitted for my straight jacket and move into my foam rubber room.

BUY IT!!

  1. i love thin mints.. these were good, but not something i'd buy again.

i'm not sure why they didn't use the name 'samoa' for the other ones. i know that depending on where you buy the cookies, they can either be called 'samoas' or 'caramel delites' - so if quaker had an issue with the word 'samoa' why didn't they just call them 'caramel delites'? hmm.
