Review: LALA Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie

Sticking my nose in the dairy case at my local Kroger, I was looking for a new yogurt flavor and/or product to review and I stumbled upon something that I had never seen before, which was this LALA Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie.  Frankly, I've never heard of a yogurt smoothie in my life, so I was naturally curious and hurriedly grabbed one out of the case, tossed into my cart and brought it home for this review.  As I said, I picked this up at Kroger and it was $1.15 for a seven fluid ounce container.  It is 150 calories, contains five grams of protein and according to the packaging, is made with real fruit, is low fat, has no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial flavors or colors.  Wow, that's a lot to digest (pun intended).

As you can see, hopefully, from the picture above is that this yogurt smoothie carries a slight pinkish hue and that's caused by this being strawberry flavored, obviously.  One thing that did surprise me that was how loose and runny this was.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this is technically a drink, but I guess I was expecting the yogurt to be a little thicker, kind of like a thick milk shake consistency.  Anyway, not that it matters though.  The smoothie also carried a slight smell of strawberry, so that was nice as well.

That slight smell of strawberry also carried over to the taste as well as its strawberry taste was quite slight as well.  I could definitely tell it was strawberry because of its flavor and slight sweetness but nothing about the strawberry flavor or its sweetness really smacked me in the mouth.  In fact, this really just tasted like a container of milk that had some strawberry syrup shot into it (like you would do with that Hershey's strawberry syrup).  That wasn't necessarily a horrible thing, but I guess I was expecting more.  That said, the flavoring was nice and cooling, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that since it basically tasted like I was drinking flavored milk.

Buy It or Fly By It?  In terms of rating on taste alone, I have to give this a BUY IT rating.  It's pleasant enough that if you find one in your hands, I think you'll enjoy it.  It's just not my cup of tea though and I doubt I'll be throwing this flavor of LALA Yogurt Smoothies (there were more flavors) into my cart ever again.  Even though I won't be making any purchases, that doesn't mean that you should stay away because if you feel you might enjoy a product like this, it's definitely worth a shot as a nice breakfast or middle of the day treat.  To each their own, I suppose.

BUY IT!!

  1. Why does their site list HFC on the ingredient list if there is none. Did I misread?
