How to Eat Gluten Free Even When Travelling

When planning a trip, packing is one of the biggest concerns for many. However, if you are gluten free, it may not be the clothes you are so worried about. In fact, you may be more concerned about how to stick to your eating habits away from home. The good news is that it is easier than ever to have a stress-free vacation and remain gluten free. Some tips that will help you do that are highlighted here.

Create a Snack Pack
Having a gluten free snack pack on hand is a good idea, even if you are just going to the grocery store. You can pack baggies with a number of non-perishable items such as energy bars, crackers, nuts, dried fruit, seeds, nut butter, gluten free cereal and tea bags. When you are the road or get to the airport you can supplement these items with water, yogurt, hummus, cheese, veggies and fruit. Not only will this help you have something to snack on when the urge strikes, it will also minimize the chances of you getting something with gluten in it if you are on the go.

Use Social Media
Are you planning to travel to a new state or even a new country? If so, it may be difficult to determine which restaurants are gluten free. Also, using your dinner gluten free recipes may not be an option if you are staying in a hotel. This is one of those times that social media can be invaluable. Use social media to ask others for suggestions of gluten free eating spots for your destination. There is a good chance you will receive more than a few responses and you can do a bit more research prior to leaving to ensure these are good options. This can result in great options and reduce the stress of “where to eat” each night.

Do Some Research Ahead of Time
Not every town may be “enlightened” as the one you live in. This means that you need to do a bit of research prior to heading out to find out about any eating options available in the area that cater to allergy-sensitive or gluten free eating habits. This will pay off in the long run and minimize the chance you will have to sit around wondering where to go to grab a bite to eat while you are on vacation.

Taking the time to plan ahead will definitely pay off when it comes to traveling while sticking to a gluten free diet.
