Review: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Crunch Caramel Fudge Pretzel Greek Yogurt

I've already opined on the seeming lack of creativity from major manufacturers before in rolling out new products, so I'll spare you (and myself) from regurgitating that take again.  Instead, I'll just dive into another Dannon review of one of their new products as I take a look at a spin on their normal Light & Fit line of Greek yogurts with this single serving cup of Dannon Light & Fit Greek Crunch Caramel Fudge Pretzel Greek Yogurt that I was able to pick up at Kroger for $1.29.  The cups, with mix-ins, packs in 5.0 ounces of yogurt/pretzel mix and that mix racks up 130 calories and eleven grams of protein.  The yogurt is fat free, but mixing in the fudge covered pretzels adds just a tiny bit of fat to the entire package.

Upon first opening this, the first thing to notice is the tan colored caramel Greek yogurt, which in the case of my container, was very thick.  It carried a mild smell of caramel and also a bit of the sour/tart Greek yogurt smell that I've come to know.  The fudge covered pretzels in the top portion of the container (the lid) were airy and not really a hard fudge but more of a dusty fudge on the outside, I can't say that I expected that.  They smelled both of chocolate and salt, so it was clear that this was going to be in the sweet/salty tug-of-war that so many products try to go for.

My first taste was of the caramel Greek yogurt and it had smooth and appealing flavor.  It wasn't sweet, but it did have kind of a rich taste to it.  Next up was the fudge covered pretzels and while they were not what I expected at all (I expected a hard chocolate exterior), they were delicious.  Great chocolate flavor with airy and salty pretzel crunch on the outside,  I would honestly eat an entire bag of these by themselves and be a happy man.  Mixed together, this was an outstanding mix of salty, sweet and somewhat rich.  Every flavor represented itself and was extremely well balanced.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'm often a bit leery of the sweet and salty combo because it fails to deliver for me on a frequent basis.  This was not one of those times and it delivered in spades, so it gets a BUY IT rating for being delicious.  For a "healthy" food, these was very much like a dessert and a treat, so if that's what you are looking for, you cannot go wrong with this.

BUY IT!!
