Review: Don't Go Nuts Whitewater Chomp Nut Free Energy Bar

I was aimless strolling through my local Meijer recently (I'm not going to kid myself, I'm always aimless strolling) and I wandered through the nutrition bar aisle and noticed that there was an entirely new line of bars sitting on the shelf.  Curiosity piqued, I went in for a closer look and found this Don't Go Nuts Whitewater Chomp Nut Free Energy Bar on sale for roughly $1.50.  The world seems to be filled with people with allergies to something these days and in this case, this bar caters to those with nut allergies as it's nut free.  It's also gluten free, kosher and organic.  Packed into this 1.58 ounces are 180 calories and two grams of protein, although the website says there are three grams.  What a dilemma...packaging vs. website!

I could describe this, but I'll let the perhaps faulty website do it for me:  "A soft, chewy granola bar that adds a new twist with white chocolate chips inside and white chocolate drizzled on top."  So there you go.  I'll  point out that the white chocolate chips are HUGE, as you can see in the picture above.  Something else worth noting is that while the bar has no mention of coconuts in the ingredients, it does smell like coconuts when you smell it, which I did several times just to make sure that I wasn't crazy.  The bar is also quite soft and pliable (think CLIF bar), so that was nice.

Biting into this soft bar immediately provided a wonderful reward as the flavor in this just jumped out.  The granola mix was soft and chewy and had alternating sweet tastes of vanilla and honey, which was part of the mix.  Once I reached the white chocolate chips and drizzle, I had some additional sugary and rich sweetness which I found to be particularly delicious.  The chips had some pop to them and provided some snap each time I encountered one, but they did melt quickly.  The white chocolate drizzle on top brought additional sugary sweetness to this entire package and also melted over the top of each bite to add some decadence to this as well.

Buy It or Fly By It?  All I could think of as I finished this bar was that I wanted more, more, more and honestly, I'm getting hungry just typing this review.  It was that good and because of that, easily earns a BUY IT ranking.  I don't have any nut allergies so there's no real reason for me to eat this bar other than it's totally delicious and it is.  If you encounter this on your local store shelves, do not hesitate to snatch it up, nut allergies or not.
