Review: NuGo Slim Brownie Crunch Bar

NuGo has had nearly a one year rest in reviews on this blog. so it's been a while.  Mostly that's been because I haven't been able to find any other flavors in my usual haunts.  Some time back, I took a voyage to Fresh Thyme and picked up a lot of different bars for reviews and this was one of those bars.  Finally, I'm getting around to taking a taste of this NuGo Slim Brownie Crunch Bar that I was able to pick up for $1.89.  The bar itself is gluten free and also clocks in at 1.59 ounces with 190 calories and sixteen grams of protein.

I was going to type out my own description, but I'm short on time and I'm just going to steal this from my buddies at NuGo from their website:  "Satisfy your sweet cravings with this decadent brownie bar. We took a gooey dark chocolate base and added crushed almonds for a great crunch. To make it the ultimate snack, we finished this bar by dipping it in REAL Dark Chocolate for a delicious guilt-free snack."  Well, it at least sounds appealing.  I guess it's up to my taste buds to figure out if it's actually appealing (and guilt-free!).  Also, just ignore the fact that it has a refrigerator chill spot on it.

When I first bit into this, it wasn't particularly great because I found it to be a bit hard.  Granted, some of that was because I store my bars in the refrigerator, but even with that, nothing should be this tough.  After that, I was met with any airy chew that had an occasional small pop from the almonds that were mixed in the bar.  The dark chocolate then melted over the top to moisten this up just a bit.  As for flavor, I can't really say that there was a lot.  I can say that the almond flavor was stronger than I would have expected and brought some nuttiness to the bar.  Outside of that though, this bar was a whole lot of nothing.  The bittersweet dark chocolate was neither bitter nor sweet.  It was just flat.  I guess there was a glimmer of chocolate flavor at the end, but I'm not sure if that was from the coating or the chocolate interior of the bar.  Either way, it was weak.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This bar was so boring that there genuinely is just not enough to say about this bar.  If something is so boring that I can't really think of anything to say, I think I'm obligated to give it a FLY BY IT rating.  I mean, who wants to be bored when buying a food product, right?  You want to be satisfied...well, I do at least.  This bar just does not do that.

FLY BY IT!!
