I'm all for minimalism because it makes things less complicated and I very much appreciate lack of complications. That's what makes today's review so interesting to me. It's the second time I've looked at a That's It. product here on the blog and if you are new to their products, they pretty much only used one or two ingredients. In the case of this That's it. Apple + Blueberries Bar, it's only apples and blueberries. That's it. Get it? Ha, ha. Anyway, I picked this one up at Fresh Thyme for $1.69 and it's 1.2 ounces with 100 calories and one gram of protein (fruits aren't necessarily known for their heavy protein content). It's also all natural, gluten free, kosher, raw, vegan and zero fat, so how about that?
Being that there's only two ingredients in here (one apple and twenty blueberries), there's not a lot to look at in this sticky and pliable bar since it's basically a puree of the two ingredients. Now, there are some slight chunks of blueberry and apple in there as you can see, but it's mostly ground up puree that somehow manages to stay packed together, which I find somewhat amazing. As for the smell of the bar, it smells of both ingredients, although I'd say it's more blueberry than it is apple. Outside of that, there's not much else to write here. There's only two ingredients, so it's a pretty short topic list.
As I bit into this very soft and chewy bar, I was definitely hit with the flavors of both ingredients. The apple tartness was there along with a combined tang from the blueberries and apple. The blueberries also brought a degree of sweetness to the bar. As you might expect from a bar containing only two ingredients, none of which are additives, the fruit flavor in this was quite strong and nice. I would even venture out to say that it was almost a "fresh" taste even though that was clearly not the case with this bar.
Buy It or Fly By It? This was a nice and safe flavored bar that I enjoyed eating from beginning to end. I very much enjoy apples and blueberries and the combination of those two, along with the nice flavor leads me to give this a BUY IT rating. It's too bad that I can only find these bars in health food stores, which I don't visit particularly often, because if they were available in regular supermarket-type stores, I'd be a frequent purchaser.
