I don't spend a lot of time looking at the Magnum ice cream bars in my grocer's freezer case. Most of the time, I've found that they are pretty good, they bore me in general. Not sure why, but they just do and that's one of the many reasons why I haven't looked at one in over a year. Anyway, from time to time, I meander through the freezer section and a new Magnum product jumps out at me. That's what happened when I was meandering through the Kroger freezer section and saw this box of three Magnum Double Peanut Butter Ice Cream Bars sitting there at a sale price of $2.99. I should also mention that I don't buy a lot of Magnum bars because they generally are more expensive than I'd like but at the aforementioned price along with a coupon for $0.75 off, the price was just right! Anyway, each bar in the box is 340 calories and weighs in at 3.38 fluid ounces.
Sorry, I'm going to be lazy here and let Magnum describe this one for me: "Peanut butter ice cream dipped in a chocolatey coating, peanut buttery sauce and milk chocolate." As you can see above, that's pretty much what this is visually. It's not as easy to discern this is peanut butter ice cream from a visual perspective, but once I took a quick smell of the bar, it was easy to smell that there was peanut butter in here. Outside of Magnum's description, I can't really think of much else to write to describe this.
When I bit into this bar, I could say that there was a lot of peanut butter flavor. In fact, I would almost say it was double. Ha, ha, I crack myself up. Anyway, the peanut butter flavor was thick and rich and when mixed with the thick and rich milk chocolate, there was a whole lot of both of those coming on. The milk chocolate did an excellent job providing snap via the exterior shell and the peanut butter sauce ended up being an additional coating that provided a bit of gooeyness to each bite with a bit more snap underneath with more chocolate coating. The interior peanut butter ice cream then added a creaminess to it that when all of this was mixed together, it was pretty much the definition of decadence.
Buy It or Fly By It? If you are a peanut butter and chocolate person, you will LOVE this bar. I do like both of these things quite a bit, so I give this a BUY IT rating. Now, I do wish these Magnum bars were a bit cheaper, but in the future when armed with a sale and/or coupon, I will almost assuredly make these my flavor of choice when making a purchase (replacing the White Chocolate bars). Buy these and I think you'll be as equally impressed as I was.
