Review: Go Raw Live Pumpkin Bar

Of all the bars I picked up in my Fresh Thyme shopping binge, today's bar (along with some others of the same ilk, but in different flavors) is definitely the most interesting of what I picked up for $0.99.  I mean it was interesting in terms of size and composition.  I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like this Go Raw Live Pumpkin Bar before in the over one thousand reviews that I've done on this blog.  I mentioned its size and it clocks in at a measly 0.46 ounces.  In that tiny package is 60 calories and two grams of 100% organic protein.  If you are interested in all the other health metrics, and I know a lot of people are, this is also gluten free, nut free, raw, vegan and wheat free.  They also tag this on the wrapper as "Real Live Food" too.

I've already mentioned that this was a tiny 0.46 ounces and that is certainly noticeable when you take this out of the wrapper and give it a look.  It's nearly paper thin and also very brittle, but it is jam packed with A LOT of clearly visible pumpkin and flax seeds.  It's also got some not-as-visible agave nectar, dates and sea salt packed into that tiny package as well.  In terms of smell, there really wasn't any.  Well, that's not necessarily true.  If you've ever smelled dried pumpkin seeds before, then you'll know what I'm talking about because this bar smells like that (meaning some, but VERY minimal smell).

When you bite into this, there's a lot of graininess from the variety of seeds, but the size of the pumpkin seeds actually made this surprisingly crunchy.  It was peanut-style crunchiness, but there was some in here that was entirely unexpected and that was nice.  Now, that crunch was extremely brittle since this was such a frail bar, but it was crunch nonetheless.  You may be wondering why I'm spending so much time talking about the texture, eh?  Well, that's because this bar did not have a lot of flavor.  Again, if you've ever had dried pumpkin seeds before that are sprinkled with salt, that's exactly what this tasted like.  It had very, very, very mild sweetness and very mild saltiness, but it was just essentially the flavor of a seed that tasted semi-roasted.  I will say there was a tiny hit of sweetness at the end of each bite, but it wasn't particularly potent.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'm torn on what to do with this bar.  It was fine, but there wasn't a ton of flavor.  It was extremely healthy, but while I prefer to eat healthy, that's not a deal breaker for me.  I guess because this was a decent snack and it had just enough flavor to be worthwhile, I will give this a BUY IT rating.  I know that's kind of a tepid rating, but it's really the best I can do because I'm so confused by this.  Now, if you love extreme health, then this is absolutely right up your alley because it is an interesting concept.

BUY IT!!
