Review: Muller Raspberry Chocolate Chip Yogurt

I mentioned in one of my previous Muller reviews how bizarre I found it that Muller (Quaker) has introduced a new line of products that they've dubbed as "Ice Cream Inspired", yet they do not mention that at all on the packaging and only on the website.  If I weren't writing food reviews for this blog, I'd have no idea that they had that inspiration if I saw these products on the shelf.  Just seems completely non-sensical to me.  Anyway, I picked up this Ice Cream Inspired cup of Muller Raspberry Chocolate Chip Yogurt on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  It's a 5.3 ounce cup of yogurt that is packed with 210 calories and seven grams of protein.

When I first tore the lid off of this and gave it a quick stir for the photo above, I was impressed by the number of chocolate shavings that were spread throughout this container of yogurt.  Not only is that a good sign for the flavor of this (one would think), but it also is good for the texture of the yogurt cup as those shavings would almost certainly break up the texture of this extremely thick and creamy yogurt.  In terms of the smell, it did smell prominently of raspberry, although that raspberry smell wasn't so potent that it was overwhelming.  It was just very pleasant.

I dipped my spoon in for my first spoonful and as I said before, this yogurt was quite creamy, which was nice.  For my first nibble, I made sure to just taste the raspberry yogurt and it was both sweet and tart, but not overpowering in any particular direction.  It was just pleasant raspberry taste with the cooling effect of yogurt on top of it.  My next nibble (or whole spoonful) then incorporated the chocolate shavings and those shavings did exactly as I anticipated they would in that they brought an additional textural element to this as well as some melting sweetness that brought a slight degree of decadence to this.  Clearly, this was inspired by ice cream with chocolate chips in it (DUH) and it definitely did a good job translating that inspiration into real life form.

Buy It or Fly By It?  When you get a product like this that has a semi-basic type of recipe, all you can really hope for is that it delivers as you'd expect and this Muller yogurt product (Ice Cream Inspired!) certainly did that, so it gets a BUY IT rating.  I particularly enjoyed the creaminess of this because that creaminess truly did give this a legitimate reason to say that it was inspired by ice cream.  The flavor was pleasing as well in that it was both chocolatey and fruity, so that certainly does not hurt either.

BUY IT!!
