Review: Wholesome Goodness Apple Cinnamon Omega Granola Bar

My mother tells me that I'm supposed to have some wholesomeness and goodness in my life.  If that's true, what better way to get that in my life (and my belly) is there than to eat a bar with both of those things in the name?  I really can't see a better way, can you?  Yes, that is a really horrible introduction, but hey, sometimes it's tough to write something witty (or even remotely passable) every single time.  Anyway, this isn't the first time I've tried to get both of those things in me since I've reviewed Wholesome Goodness previously, but today's review is another variety out of their product offering with this look at the Wholesome Goodness Apple Cinnamon Omega Granola Bar that I was able to pick up for $1.49 at my local Marsh.  Each bar is 1.4 ounces and has 160 calories and three grams of protein.

Before I go into how this looks, I should note that this bar was an immediate blast of apple and cinnamon as soon as I tore away the wrapper so that its aroma could make it into my personal space.  Outside of the smell, this bar was a mix of pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, almond shards, dried apple pieces and oats.  All of it was bound together with honey and the heavy dusting of cinnamon (thus the smell) and brown sugar was very visible on the surface of this somewhat sticky bar. Make no mistake, this bar was clearly not going to be devoid of any cinnamon flavor.

Like the last Wholesome Goodness bar that I tried, my first bite of this bar revealed that this bar was a bit more difficult to chew than I would have expected.  What it also revealed was A LOT of cinnamon flavor, which wasn't surprising based on the smell of this bar.  It wasn't an overly spicy taste of cinnamon, but there was some definite heat there that tickled my throat in a pretty intense way.  As for the apple flavor, it was sweet and tart and really more of an aftertaste to the potent cinnamon flavor.  When mixed with the cinnamon, it was exactly as you'd expect out of the apple cinnamon flavor combination, albeit with a bit more spice than most products.  As for the rest of the bar, it definitely had a grainy and difficult chew to it as the various seeds, oats and almond shards added quite a bit of graininess to this as a whole.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I enjoyed this bar enough to give it a BUY IT rating, but as I type this review the morning after eating this, I can still feel the tickle of the cinnamon from this bar in my throat.  It really is that much cinnamon.  Again, not overly spicy cinnamon, but spicy enough that it lingers and announces its presence.  If you aren't a cinnamon person and/or don't want to deal with that lingering taste, I'd stay away from this.  If you like cinnamon and/or don't mind dealing with the lingering, this is definitely a solid representation of the apple cinnamon flavor mix.

BUY IT!!
