Review: Wholesome Goodness Cranberry Omega Granola Bar

It's another new manufacturer!  I always love it when I stumble upon something new in my usual stores because I sometimes worry that I'm going to run out of things that I can or want to review for this blog.  In the back of my head, I know that would never be a problem, but I worry because that's just the type of person that I am.  Anyway, today's new product is a Wholesome Goodness Cranberry Omega Granola Bar that I picked up at Marsh for $1.29.  It's 1.4 ounces and has 160 calories and three grams of protein.  As the name would imply, it's good for Omega fats too, so hooray I guess.

When I pulled this one out of the wrapper, I was quite surprised at how much was going on in this bar.  I expected it to be a simple granola bar with some dried cranberries, oats, etc. like you'd see in a typical granola bar.  This one included those ingredients, but also had several others including almond slivers, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and chia seeds.  I definitely was not expecting that nut and seed presence, so anytime you are getting extra ingredients in what you expect to be a fairly normal presentation, I'd say it's a bonus.  The bar had a slight smell of cranberry, but it didn't smell entirely of cranberry.  It was a smell that I couldn't quite identify, although I will say the smell wasn't a negative in anyway.  It was just different.

Because of the presence of those almonds and various seeds, this bar was a lot more crunchy than I ever would have expected.  That was actually something that I liked quite a bit as I've mentioned here many times that I am a big fan of crunchy foods.  The included rice crisps in the granola mix added a bit of airiness to the occasional bite, so it was nice to have that variance of textures spread throughout.  In terms of flavor, there was definitely a noticeable tang to this but it was not something that I could quite pin on cranberries.  There were some dried apples in the mix of this (saw that after reading the ingredients), so that had to be why the tang wasn't quite cranberry and was a mix of several flavors that couldn't be pinned down.  It was odd to not be able to point to one particular flavor, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing because the flavor was still solid.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I said, this was not quite cranberry, but the flavor was solid enough to give this a BUY IT rating.  While not a fantastic introduction to the blog, Wholesome Goodness did a nice job in their introduction in at least providing me with a bar that had a lot of crunchiness to it.  The flavor could have been a bit better, but all in all, this was a tasty effort.

BUY IT!!
