Review: The GFB Gluten Free Bar Oatmeal Raisin Bar

I mentioned in a previous Gluten Free Bar review that I first thought they had been kicked out of my local Meijer, but like the Phoenix, they rose again with additional flavors.  I said that I picked up a couple of flavors and today's review of this The GFB Gluten Free Bar Oatmeal Raisin Bar is the second of those flavors that I was able to grab.  Like the last, this one was on the shelves of Meijer for $1.49.  It clocks in at 2.05 ounces with 220 calories and twelve grams of protein.  It's all natural, dairy free, soy free, vegan and obviously gluten free.

As with the others that I've looked at, this bar is primarily a date puree but since this has oatmeal as a flavor component, there's a mix of oatmeal (gluten free!) within that date puree mix.  Also within the date puree are small raisin bits, sunflower seeds, vanilla, cinnamon and sea salt, among others.  The bar smelled faintly of both raisins and cinnamon and that's always a comforting smell and flavor combination for me, so I very much enjoyed it.  Oh yeah...one more thing, but I think it might go without mentioning in these bars, the bar itself was quite soft and sticky as soon as I took it out of the wrapper.

As you can probably guess, this bar was quite chewy.  It wasn't just from the date mix, but also from the raisins and softened oatmeal mix.  It had faint hint of sweetness from the raisins and dates and an ever-so-mild hint of spice from the cinnamon in the mix.  One flavor that I wasn't anticipating being as potent as it turned out to be was the vanilla.  Each bite was a hint of sweet, a hint of spice and then a pop of vanilla.  I'm boring, so I like vanilla and since that vanilla had noticeable flavor, I very much enjoyed it.  The mix of brown rice crisps and semi-dry oatmeal pieces brought some graininess to this, so for such a basic bar, there was a decent amount of texture.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'm naturally inclined to like the oatmeal raisin combination, but I really liked this combination because of the added impact of the vanilla.  Because of that, this bar gets a very solid BUY IT rating and is definitely the best of the GFB bars that I've tried so far.  I've got to admit, these bars have been pretty good and that's surprised me because I wasn't expecting so much going in, especially after how basic my first review was.  If you are fortunate to see one of these on your store shelves, I'd highly recommend picking one up.

BUY IT!!
