Review: Come Ready Kids Chocolate Chip Bar

With each passing day, it becomes more and more apparent to me that I'm no longer a kid, no matter how much I'd like to be.  No responsibility, no REAL job, no true obligations, etc.  Does that sounds like fun?  Well, maybe not to some people, but it does sound like fun to me sometimes.  Anyway, despite the fact that I'm not longer a kid, I can still eat products that are clearly intended for kids and that leads me to today's review of a bar that appeared to me on a recent trip to Meijer.  I was able to pick up this Come Ready Kids Chocolate Chip Bar (since renamed to have "Zip!" at the end of the name) for $1.29 and the bar is 1.23 ounces with 140 calories and seven grams of protein.

With a bar that had such a basic name, I was expecting a pretty basic presentation and for the most part, that's what I got.  This bar had a chocolate base layer topped with the standard soy crisp mix that was bound together with almond butter, which is somewhat out of the ordinary.  Where this bar stood out in it's presentation from the normal chocolate chip bar was that it had A LOT of chocolate chips.  They were mini chocolate chips, but as you can see in my photo above, there were a ton of them and see that plethora of chips gave me a nice feeling going into tasting something that would I assume to be just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill type of product.

As I would have expected based on the overall composition of the bar with the chocolate base and plethora of chocolate chips, this one had a lot of chocolate flavor in it and that was wonderful. Because of the varying presentations of the chocolate, it had some different textures as well, so that was also nice.  The plethora of chips brought some initial crunch to the surprisingly tough soy crisp mix to the bar, but then those chips melted quickly and brought a dense chocolate taste to the already melting chocolate base layer.  The almond butter brought an ever so slight nutty flavor to counteract the chocolate flavor, so it was nice to have that to offset what could have potentially been too much chocolate.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This was a pretty basic recipe bar and I would have expected basic flavor, but what I got was something slightly better that I genuinely enjoyed.  This bar had a lot of chocolate flavor, but it wasn't enough to be too much.  It was just the right balance of chocolate and for that, this easily earns a BUY IT rating from me.  If one of these Come Ready bars pops up in your store, I'd recommend grabbing one for yourself.

BUY IT!!
