Review: Stonyfield Organic Petite Creme Ooh Lala Peach Low Fat Sweet Fresh Cheese

It's kind of amusing to me that when I find a new product, I just plow through as many variations of that product as I can find in a short period.  That's definitely the case with these Stonyfield Organic Petite Creme products as I've just been making my way through each of their flavors in prior reviews.  My quest to review everything continues today as I take a look at yet another flavor of this product line with this Stonyfield Organic Petite Creme Ooh Lala Peach Low Fat Sweet Fresh Cheese that I picked up at Kroger for $1.00.  It's 5.3 ounces and has 130 calories and ten grams of protein in this single serving cup of cheese.  Yep, cheese.  I still can't get over that one.  Anyway, it's also gluten free in case you were wondering.

One of the first things I saw when I tore the cover off of this was the amount and size of the peach chunks in this and I will say that I was moderately impressed.  I was expecting little peach bits and I wasn't expecting much of them.  Stonyfield surprised me (in a good way) here and I commend them for that.  Peach can tend to be a weak flavor at times, so having that many peach chunks spread throughout this container of creamy cheese helps get that flavor through, at least in theory.  In terms of smell, it basically had that cheesy smell which I can best describe as somewhat cottage cheese-like, but not overly strong.

In terms of the flavor of this, I can't say there were any huge surprises.  The sweet fresh cheese tasted just like all the other sweet fresh cheeses in that it had some mild sweetness to it (DUH) and some creamy flavor.  Not quite cottage cheese because it didn't have that bite to it (thankfully), but also not quite yogurt either.  Somewhere in between.  As for the named (and apparently orgasmic according to that name) peaches, they really didn't bring a lot of flavor to this since peaches can be such a mildly tasting fruit.  They did bring more sweetness, albeit a slightly tangy type of sweetness to balance out against the creamy sweetness of the cheese.  The major contribution by the peaches was the additional texture that they brought.  The peach chunks held together pretty well and had some unexpected firmness to them, so that firmness brought a vast (and quite welcome) textural difference to the creamy cheese.  The fact that there were so many of them helped too.  It's just too bad that they didn't have more flavor to them, but oh well.

Buy It or Fly By It?   This was pretty basic and didn't have a ton of flavor outside of the cheese and slight peach flavor, but that's okay.  It was a safe and mildly flavored treat and I'll give it a BUY IT rating because that safe and mild flavor sometimes is capable of bringing comfort and this did that.  Sure, I would have appreciated more peach flavor and flavor in general, but what I got was just fine.

BUY IT!!

  1. I'd be curious if to see what you think if you try 'Quark' - I tried it recently (it is pricey!), but couldn't quite reach a conclusion - except maybe it's a 'when it's on sale' product. Thanks for the reviews!
