Review: Dannon Creamery Dark Chocolate Flavor Pudding

I mentioned in a prior Dannon Creamery review that a reader left a comment on a review prior to that saying that the subject of today's review was incredible.  Me being stubborn old me, I decided that I'd rather try a different version instead of the one that was recommended to me and while it was quite good, it was not life changing or anything like that.  On a recent trip to Meijer, I decided to get over my stubbornness and actually pick up what was recommended to me and that led me to pick up this container of Dannon Creamery Dark Chocolate Flavor Pudding in a freebie promotion (lucky me!).  This 5.3 ounce container of pudding is 190 calories and since it's pudding, I don't think protein really matters does it?

Being that this is just pudding and it is only one flavor, it should come as no surprise that when I opened this up was that I saw a mass of dark brown colored pudding that that was fairly thick/creamy.  It also had a strong smell of dark chocolate, but it wasn't overwhelming.  Basically, this is what I would have expected going in and that's a good start, I suppose.

I've mentioned many times on this blog that I'm not the world's biggest fan of dark chocolate.  I'm growing more accepting of it, but even with a recommendation from a reader, I'm still apprehensive.  That said, I didn't have anything to worry about with this pudding because while it did taste like dark chocolate (FLAVOR...let's make the key distinction here like Dannon did), it wasn't the kind of flavor that usually turns me off when it comes to dark chocolate (bitter, flat).  The dark chocolate in this pudding had an ever-so-slight hint of sweetness to it that I very much appreciated.  It was still mostly flat like dark chocolate always is, but that sweetness saved the day.  What this also lacked, and it's a good thing in my opinion, is the bitterness that dark chocolate flavored products often carry.  In it's totality, this really tasted like a cross between milk chocolate and dark chocolate to me and when that happens, it makes me like dark chocolate quite a bit.

Buy It or Fly By It?  The reader that left the comment was right about this one.  It was delicious and definitely gets a BUY IT rating.  It was so delicious that I was disappointed once I finished up the entire container because I wanted more.  That shocked me because I never thought I would say something like that about dark chocolate.  This is a win all around for Dannon and they should be commended for that.

BUY IT!!

  1. I'm an ardent vanilla freak, but this dessert rocked me (as a Diabetic, it didn't kill me, either, which is good). Thank you for your review. It's 47 cents at my local Shoprite and I hope others give it a whirl.
