Review: PowerBar Performance Energy Berry Yogurt Wafer Bar

I've been hitting some product manufacturers that I haven't reviewed in a long, long time recently as I've FINALLY been finding new product offerings in my local stores.  One of those manufacturers is PowerBar, which I haven't reviewed in close to two years.  Of course, new products AND a Free Friday Download from Kroger will get me to review pretty much anything so that leads me to this review of the PowerBar Performance Energy Berry Yogurt Wafer Bar.  Since this is an energy bar, it's intent is for you to eat before or during your workout so that  you can get the necessary boost of energy to push you along.  It's also 1.41 ounces and has 170 calories and a minimal two grams of protein.

As you can see from the two pictures that I've already shown in this post, this bar looks pretty much like the package said it would look.  It has a light, flaky wafer exterior (crumbles easily) and a berry yogurt interior binding it together.  That interior smelled nicely of berries, although it was hard for me to place what berries since the ingredient list doesn't really say.  If I had to GUESS based on the looks of it, I'd guess blueberries and strawberries, which are too of the most popular kinds of berries out there.

When I took my first bite of this, the light and flaky exterior dissipated quickly as I would have expected.  It's flaky dryness played well with the moist and chewy interior.  I will say that I did not expect the interior to be so gummy and chewy.  I expected it to just be soft, but it had some kickback to it that made it chewy.  The crunchiness of the flaky wafer worked well with that.  As for the flavor of the interior yogurt filling, I'll stick with my previous guesses...this one had the taste of sweet strawberries with maybe a hint of tang coming from blueberries.  I will say that neither flavor was particularly strong or prevalent, but my very sophisticated palette (I say that with sarcasm) tells me that those were the flavors.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If I had to think of a phrase to describe this bar, I would call it workmanlike.  It wasn't outstanding, but it brought enough fruity flavor and texture to make this one interesting and tasty enough to earn it a BUY IT rating.  In the end, this ended up being a safe pick and a solid re-entry into the blog for PowerBar after a long absence.

BUY IT!!
