Review: PureFit Almond Crunch Premium Nutrition Bar

My last (and first) experience with a PureFit bar was exceptional and probably one of the better experiences that I've had in a while on this blog.  So, it should go without saying that going into experience number two, my expectations were quite high.  It was with those high expectations that I eagerly dove into this PureFit Almond Crunch Premium Nutrition Bar that I picked up at Marsh for $2.59.  Each all natural (and premium!) bar weighs in at 2.0 ounces and has 220 calories with a hearty eighteen grams of protein.  It's also dairy free, gluten free and vegan, so it's got all that going for it too.

As you can see from the photo above, there's not a lot to look at with this bar.  It's a tan almond-like color and it's very sticky and difficult to tear apart (think gummy), thus the very rough look in the photo above.  The bar itself has a very mild smell of almonds and when you examine it closely, you can see little pieces of ground up almonds throughout the bar itself.  There's also some soy crisps in there that are barely visible, but in terms of actual components that I could see, there were not a lot so there's not really much else to say here.

When you read the PureFit website description of this bar, it makes reference to the fact that almonds often find their place in high quality foods like desserts, etc.  You read that and then you look at this blob of nothingness and I don't know about you, but there was a disconnect between the two in my mind.  Anyway, as I bit into this very chewy bar, I was hit by a slight almond flavor and then a fruit like sweetness.  Neither flavor was particularly strong, but they did balance well against each other.  The rest of the bar essentially had no flavor though and mainly was just texture of being gummy/chewy mixed with the intermittent crunch of the airy soy crisps and the solid and grainy almond bits.   There truly was not a lot going on here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While this bar was absolutely boring and nothing to really write home about, it truly was not all that bad and in an odd way, I found it borderline appetizing.  For that seemingly odd response to this bar, I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  Like I said, this is nothing special, but it has just enough flavor and mildness to make it a worthwhile and filling snack/meal replacement.

BUY IT!!
