Review: Boundless Nutrition Oatmega Dark Chocolate Peanut Bar

Another day, another new manufacturer on the blog.  I know that is definitely not the case, but it does seem that I've been hitting a lot of new product manufacturers recently and that's definitely a good thing as it gives the blog a bigger reach and more variety.  That helps me (the guy trying to make money off the blog) and you (the reader trying to learn more things about products) simultaneously.  My friends at Marsh allowed me to pick up this Boundless Nutrition Oatmega Dark Chocolate Peanut Bar for $2.99 and each bar is 1.8 ounces and has 190 calories and fourteen grams of all natural oats (among other things).

Being that oats are part of the name of this bar, it came as no surprise to me that oats were a major player in the appearance of this bar.  Along with those oats were a large amount of dark chocolate chips and the oats and chips were all held together by peanut butter (yum).  The bar smelled strongly of peanut butter and while I'd like to stop describing this there, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that one of the main characteristics of this bar that makes it "healthy" is that it also includes green tea and fish oil as part of the ingredient mix.  Interesting...and terrifying.

As I bit into this, my first observation was one that I could have expected going in as this was a grainy and chewy bar, just like oatmeal bars tend to be.  What I didn't expect was that the peanut butter had a certain level of sweetness to it and in my experience, the peanut butter flavor tends to be flat and/or salty.  That sweetness was an excellent thing because it did a good job taming the bitter flavor of the dark chocolate.  That dark chocolate provided an occasional pop of crunch to each bite and then melted nicely over the top of the sweet peanut butter and dry oats.  The only typical bitter dark chocolate flavor came in the aftertaste of each bite and it really wasn't bad at all.  Speaking of dry oats, they kind of hampered this bar as it made it a bit difficult to chew as it kept drying up all the moisture in my mouth.  Not a complete turn-off by any means, but it was kind of an annoyance.  As for those dry oats, they were mainly just a textural component and that should come as no surprise to someone that has eaten oats before because they mostly lack flavor as a rule.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Nothing outstanding about this bar, but the sweetish peanut butter worked well with the somewhat bitter dark chocolate and made this an appetizing treat deserving of a BUY IT rating.  Sure, I'm pre-disposed toward oat products and maybe that biases my rating a bit, but even with that bias, I still think this is worth anyone's time if they need a fill.

BUY IT!!

  1. I actually tried this for the first time last night and thought it was very good! I also had the vanilla almond flavor and it was even better in my opinion, if you get a chance to try that one, I highly recommend doing so. -Jordan a long time lurker of the blog.
