Review: Bear Naked Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Real Nut Energy Bar

I've mentioned in my prior reviews that I had only been able to find Bear Naked bars in my "fancy" Kroger that I didn't go to often.  Well, things have changed!  I can now find these bars in my regular Kroger on a recent trip, a flavor popped in that I haven't tried out yet, so I snatched it up.  This Bear Naked Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Real Nut Energy Bar cost me $1.25 and it comes in at 2.0 ounces with 250 calories and eight grams of protein.  It's all natural, so it's supposedly healthy as well.

This bar is a base of oats just like all the other Bear Naked bars.  Within that oat mix is a mix of honey, semisweet chocolate chips, plentifully spread bits of peanuts and peanut butter, among other things.  What was interesting/wonderful about this bar is that as soon as I took it out of the wrapper, there was an immediate and strong smell of peanut butter.  As a peanut butter-aholic, I LOVED that.  The only other physical characteristic worth mentioning is that this bar was soft and pliable, so it was pretty obvious that it would be a chewy bar even though I had yet to take a bite.

As I took my first bite, it was obvious that this bar was chewy.  It was also quite grainy and semi-crunchy from the myriad of small peanuts spread amply throughout the bar.  The chocolate chips didn't really add any crunch, but its melting qualities did provide somewhat of a gooey quality and coating to the rest of the bar.  Since the chips weren't plentiful, it wasn't a lot, but it was enough to make it interesting.  As for the rest of the bar, it was a sweet (probably from the honey) and hearty peanut butter that did a decent job making the bar kind of sticky and gummy like a normal peanut butter and it needed it because this one tended to lean toward the dry side.  The ultimate description of this is it is a peanut butter bar with a hint of chocolate.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This was the perfect mix of chocolate and peanut butter and the soft chewiness of this bar mixed with that chocolate and peanut butter combination made this downright delicious, so it obviously gets a BUY IT rating.  I don't like ranking bars and claiming something is my favorite because tastes change on a daily basis, but if I were forced into ranking (or declaring a favorite) all the Bear Naked bars, I think I would have to put this one at the top of a very competitive list.

BUY IT!!
