Review: Bear Naked Peanut Butter Real Nut Energy Bar

My experiences with Bear Naked so far have been pleasant and I'm glad that I found these bars in the preppy Kroger.  That purchase binge of three bars leads me to today's review of the final bar as I took a look at the Bear Naked Peanut Butter Real Nut Energy Bar.  Like the others, I picked this one up for $1.25.  It comes in at 2.0 ounces and has 250 calories with nine grams of protein.  It's all natural and has REAL nuts, so I guess it's got that stuff going for it too.

There's not a lot to look at with this bar.  It's a basic oat based bar that is mixed with peanuts, peanut butter, sea salt and honey.  One thing that makes this slightly more than basic is that it also had a plethora of flax seeds in the mix and that kind of surprised me because I certainly was not expecting that.  As for the smell of the bar, it smelled like peanut butter as I'd expect based on the name, so outside of those very basic observations there's nothing else to say about this very basic bar.

Biting into this provided mostly what I would have expected.  A chewy bar with strong peanut butter flavor.  It wasn't an overly sweet peanut butter flavor, even with the honey, but I guess I can probably chalk that up to the fact that there was sea salt in this bar mix and that probably tamed the sweetness a bit.  Now, if you noticed my opening sentence (or go back and look at it), you'll notice that I said MOSTLY what I expected.  What I didn't expect was how much of an impact the flax seeds would have on this.  They added a ton of graininess to the bar and honestly were very present in each bite that I took.  It was kind of weird because I certainly was not expecting to so easily notice the flax seeds throughout.  I'm not sure I've ever experienced that before.  They didn't have a lot of flavor, but their presence in the texture made this strange.  Outside of that, this was about as basic of a bar as I could have expected.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I just typed, this bar was very basic and while the flax seed presence made it slightly strange, I still enjoyed the bar, so I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  Every now and then, people just need a peanut butter fix and if you are in that same boat like I am occasionally, this bar would more than satisfy that fix in a "healthy" way.  Bear Naked has a 100% success rate on this blog so far, so congratulations to them.

BUY IT!!
