Review: Kashi Dark Mocha Almond Chewy Granola Bars

I know I say the same thing in every single Kashi review, but it always bears repeating that there is not a single product manufacturer on this blog that I have a more tortured and tumultuous history with.  Bad, good, terrible, awesome...their products cover the entire gamut of reactions from me.  With that history in mind, I once again dive into another one of their products with today's review of this box of six Kashi Dark Mocha Almond Chewy Granola Bars that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $2.75.  Each bar in the box is 1.2 ounces of all natural granola bar and each bar is 130 calories with six grams of protein.

As you can see, this bar is made up of a basis of the standard soft and chewy Kashi granola.  Within that granola mix are several almonds and also chunks of dark chocolate mocha cubes.  They were fairly well spread, so I knew I'd be getting some of that flavor in every single bite.  In terms of smell, this definitely had that bizarre scent of coffee and dark chocolate permeating from it, so being that I've already stated it is bizarre, you can probably make the (correct) assumption that I was a little hesitant prior to biting into this.

Biting into this was just about as bizarre as the smell.  It was kind of dark chocolate, kind of coffee, but it definitely was not kind of appetizing.  It was the sort of taste that makes me dislike dark chocolate in general in that it was foul, not at all sweet and when combined with coffee, kind of stomach turning.  Now, the almonds did add a nice crunchy textural component to chewing through the soft bar as a whole, but texture does not often save a product in general and it certainly did not do it with these granola bars.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, I made sure to eat several of these before I finally scratched out this review and my experience with every single bar alternated between being revolted and just not liking this, so I'm pretty confident in my review that gives this a resounding FLY BY IT rating.  I'm trying to become more accepting of coffee-flavored products, but with efforts like this, it's hard to become accepting.  So, Kashi yet again covers the highs and the lows with another addition to the low category.  They truly are amazing.

BUY IT!!
