Review: Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit & Oat Harvest Blueberry Bliss Bars

It must be new product season for Kellogg's.  Actually, new product season never ends for manufacturers that large, so I guess the subject of today's review is just one more variation of products rolling off the assembly line to add to the enormous Kellogg's review catalog.  I was able to pick up this box of five Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit & Oat Harvest Blueberry Bliss Bars on sale at Meijer for $2.99 and each bar is 1.76 ounces with 180 calories and four grams of protein.

From my photo of the bar above, you can clearly see that the fruit and oat components are very well represented in the construction of the bar.  The base of the bar is a somewhat hard oat mix that is then topped with a blueberry spread that is comparable to a jelly.  Within that blueberry spread is more oat pieces to wholly emphasize the oat component of this entire package.  So, it's a lotta fiber and a lotta fruit.  Got it.

Biting into this, that hard oat base of the bar quickly broke up and became grainy and chewy.  Flavor-wise, it was what I'd expect in that it tasted like oats.  The blueberry mix was like a jelly in that it was gooey and provided a nice textural difference to the dry oat mix.  As for the blueberry flavor itself, it was actually quite good.  It was tart and sweet, just like I'd expect a blueberry jam to be.  I don't know if I'd go so far as to describe it as bliss like Kellogg's did, but I did find it pretty good and it was a perfectly compliment to the tame and almost flavorless oat mix.  The fact that it was so pliable and "wet" also helped the overall dryness of the bar as well.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If I were to equate this to baseball (it's really cold as I type this and I'm dreaming of spring and summer things), I would say that this is a .280 hitter.  Not a great hitter, but a solid performer that gets the job done.  For that, this gets a BUY IT rating.  Don't expect greatness or bliss, but expect something that is tasty and helps fill an overall hunger need.

BUY IT!!
