Review: Muller frutUp Peach Passion Fruit Lowfat Yogurt with Fruit Mousse

I've tried several of these Muller frutUp yogurts before but I'll be the first to admit that I was scared to try this Muller frutUp Peach Passion Fruit Lowfat Yogurt with Fruit Mousse.  While I like peaches, something about blending them with passion fruit just sounds terrifying to me, which is funny since I actually had to look up someone else's description of the flavor profile of passion fruit.  Why would I be scared of something I don't know?  Silly, but that's kind of the way of the world, do you think?  Anyway, I picked this 5.3 ounce cup up on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and each cup is 140 calories and has seven grams of protein.

Nothing about how this is put together is any different than any of Muller's other yogurt/mousse products in that there is a base layer of plain lowfat yogurt that is then topped with an slightly dense fruit mousse.  In this case, the fruit mousse has a strong scent of peach and being that I appreciate peaches more with each passing day (I know, weird), I definitely appreciated that strong smell.  Outside of that, there's not a whole lot else to comment on here other than what I consider to be an odd shaped container.  In the end, nobody cares, but it does amuse me nonetheless.

I said before that I really had no idea how passion fruit tasted, so after my review, I learned that passion fruit has a citrus like taste and this fruit mousse definitely has that.  That citrus zing didn't really hit until after the initial strong peach flavor, but once it did hit, it kept up and ended up being a strong flavor in itself.  It was really different than anything that I've really tasted before in that it was sweet and tangy.  My mind kept having trouble processing it and made me keep thinking that I was eating some sort of bizarre peach, but in reality that was the passion fruit.  At first, I didn't really like it, but then I let it sink in for a couple second and in an odd way, I started to crave it.  I'm not sure I've ever had that sort of reaction to something before.  I guess you could say that I went from not like something to being passionate about it and yes, I really did up the cheese factor with this sentence.  After tasting the strong zing for a bit, I decided to mix it in with the plain yogurt thinking that the yogurt would tame the zing and cancel it out.  While it did take down that factor a bit, it didn't completely cancel it out and that passion fruit and peach flavor still shined brightly throughout.  It was actually a fun, albeit very different, type of flavor profile.

Buy It or Fly By It?   Like I said, I went from being scared of this to being put off by it to kind of craving it.  It was such a weird transformation, but it was a transformation that led me to give this a BUY IT rating.  It's certainly different, but if you are interested in trying something different that's not really like any sort of yogurt product that you've had before (at least that was the case for me), this is definitely one that you'll want to put on your to-do list because it's very peachy and the passion fruit makes it kind of fun in the end.

BUY IT!!

  1. Chobani makes a straight up passion fruit flavor yogurt with none of that namby pamby peach flavor to get in the way. I don't know that I've ever seen it in a store though so I can't speak to it's flavor. I really like the frutup yogurts, though I haven't seen lemon of black cherry in my local Kroger recently.
