Review: Larabar uber Coconut Macaroon Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar

I can appreciate a company that continues to spit out new product variations and Larabar is definitely one of those as I've hit on a cornucopia of their product here on the blog in the past.  This time, I picked up this Larabar uber Coconut Macaroon Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  The bar comes in at the measureables of 1.42 ounces, 220 calories and four grams of protein.  There's obviously also some other numbers in there, but I'm lazy and only want to hit on what I deem to be the high points.

As you can see from this bar, it's primarily nut based and when you look visually at the bar itself and also at the ingredient list, you can see that there is a plethora of nuts in this.  Those nuts include almonds, macadamia nuts, cashews and pecans.  If there's one thing I know that won't be missing here, it's absolutely the nut crunch.  Also within the mix of the bar are shards of coconut and some dates as well.  After a I took a sniff of this, I could smell all of these components and oddly enough, it smelled quite fresh which was quite nice considering this was a packaged product.

Taking a bite out of this, it came as no surprise that this was quite crunchy.  While not of the nuts were distinguishable on their own, they did provide a great nutty flavor that was also a bit salty, thus the salty part of the product name.  The sweetness in this came from the dates which brought a surprising amount of tang and also the coconut shards which while late arriving, did arrive in a pleasant and not overpowering amount.  When I thought about this bar and it's name, I had to thoughts.  First, this bar was more salty than sweet, but it wasn't overpowering in either direction.  It's nice when something can achieve acceptable balance between the two components because these often skew too far in one direction.  Secondly, I'm really not sure where the macaroon component comes into this.  I've had my fair share of macaroons in life and I pretty certain that they didn't taste anything like this, with the exception of the fact that they both sometimes have coconut flavoring and ground almonds as a base.  Outside of that, I'm just confused.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While this wasn't anything like the actual macaroon it was trying to represent in my opinion, it was still a tasty and crunchy treat and for that, I give it a BUY IT rating.  It's certainly not the most outstanding bar that I've ever eaten, but it was more than tasty enough to provide me with a satisfying snack.  The only caveat to this is that you'll need a lot of water when you are done because the salty component will end up making you quite thirsty, because I know it did me.

BUY IT!!
