Review: Fruttare Mango Ice Bars

It seems like every time I log into one of my coupon apps (store-specific or otherwise) on my iPhone, there is always a coupon for Fruttare bars.  It's quite obvious that these guys are spreading the word far and wide about their products as they've just been introduced this past year and spreading that word has led to several reviews on this blog.  Another one of those special coupons leads me to today's review of this box of six Fruttare Mango Ice Bars that I picked up for $2.99 at Kroger with one of those sale coupons.  Each bar itself is 2.0 fluid ounces and an economical 60 calories.

Being that this is just a frozen fruit juice bar, there's not a lot to describe here.  It's orange colored and has a smell that it is a mix of peaches and oranges, which is what the basic mango flavor profile entails.  One thing that I found particularly unique about this is that it wasn't just frozen liquid like I would expect but it almost had what I would consider a creamy thickness to it.  Obviously there was no dairy involved so using creamy as a descriptive word is kind of silly, but I really can't think of any other way to describe it.  I guess that just shows my lack of writing skills.

My lack of writing skills not withstanding, I took a bite into this bar and it had a delightfully sweet and pleasing taste of mango, which is good considering that's the name of these bars.  In terms of texture, it was soft and chewy instead of hard and gritty and being that hard and gritty textures are generally the reason that I don't like fruit juice bars, I very much appreciated the fact that I was able to enjoy a bar without breaking my fragile teeth.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I know this is a short review, but there's not a lot to this very simple bar.  Despite it's lack of presence and the fact that you can typically get fruit juice bars for a lot cheaper, I'll give this one a BUY IT rating because it's so much different than a lot of the bars out there.  The flavor and texture are unique and when paired with a coupon, I think these are a pretty solid tasting and costing deal.

BUY IT!!
