Review: Velvet Ice Cream Company Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

Velvet Ice Cream gave me one of my best experiences that I've ever had on this blog, so I look at them with fondness.  Unfortunately, I haven't reviewed them much because my local stores do not have a wide variety of flavor selections.  That said, my local Kroger has had this Velvet Ice Cream Company Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream in stock for quite a while but me being the miser that I am, have been waiting on a sale before I made the leap to pick up a container.  A reason sale for $3.99 for a 1.75 quart container (two extra servings!) caused me to make that leap, so here we are.  Each container has fourteen half-cup servings and each serving comes in at 180 calories.  Velvet makes its ice creams using all natural ingredients, so that's quite nice as well.

As you can see in the picture above, the base of this ice cream is a cheesecake flavored ice cream.  Within that ice cream base are ample gooey swirls of strawberry preserves contained a delightful and pleasing smell of that fruit along with them.  Also in the container were a good amount of surprisingly soft graham cracker pieces that emulated the crust of a cake, so that added another type of textural component as it allowed this to have something that was chewy and gooey.  Like that rhyme?  Yep, I'm an amateur rapper.

When I took my first spoonful, I purposely went for just the ice cream only and it had a mild taste of cheesecake, so there was nothing overly shocking from that aspect.  It bordered on a flat taste, but I knew it had other mix-ins that were to be included for the total package, so I wasn't all that upset about it.  Next, I went for the gooey strawberry preserves swirl and it was delightfully sweet and carried a wonderful strawberry flavor.  Lastly, was the graham cracker pieces and they were chewy and definitely tasted like they were supposed to although I would have appreciated more crunchy as opposed to soft chewiness.  After trying everything individually, I went in for that final testing spoonful that included all three components and what I got was something that tasted exactly like Velvet said it would:  a strawberry cheesecake.  It was chewy, gooey and the cheesecake ice cream made it cooling.  All in all, it was a very solid tasting package.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This was everything Velvet said it would be and was actually one of the most pleasing strawberry cheesecake ice crams I've ever had and it gets a BUY IT rating.  I wish it had incorporated a bit of the crunchy graham cracker crust characteristic of a cheesecake a bit more instead of those pieces being soft and chewy, but even without that, this was still quite good.  I know Velvet is a regional product, but if you are in a region that includes their selections, this is a very solid one to grab out of your freezer case.

BUY IT!!
