Review: Talenti Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Gelato

I see news releases all the time that Talenti is releasing new flavors, yet I never see them in my local grocery stores due to the fact that my local grocers keep tight inventory controls on the Talenti.  It's frustrating and I've learned to live with it, but that's why I don't review Talenti flavors here on the blog as frequently as I'd like.  That said, I was recently in Kroger and I saw this pint of Talenti Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Gelato on sale for $2.49 and I knew I had to snatch it up.  It's not a new flavor as it's been out since early 2012, but that just shows how tight the inventory controls This pint contains the typical four half-cup servings and each serving clocks in at 230 calories.

As you can see above, this pint of gelato is a black raspberry gelato base with an ample amount of chocolate chips spread throughout.  Seeing that Talenti was not shy with their chocolate chip usage was quite encouraging to me as nothing irritates me more than when a manufacturer promises mix-ins and then goes light on them.  Talenti gets kudos for their employment of them here.  As for the gelato, it had an airy and smooth consistency to it that was exceptionally nice at it made it quite easy (perhaps too easy) for me to scoop this out of the container.  The whole container itself smelled nicely of raspberry and it was such a nice smell that I could not wait to dig in.

So, with my nose intrigued, I dipped in for my first spoonful of the smooth and airy gelato and was immediately met by a nice, sweet tang of black raspberry flavor.  The chocolate chips also added some nice initial crunch and then immediately melted in my mouth to cause a coating decadence to the already sweet raspberry gelato.  It was almost as if each spoonful had some characteristics of a chocolate covered raspberry, which was kind of fun.  Outside of those two components, this was a pretty basic flavor that delivered on both components as you would have expected they would have going in and to me, that's a winner.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I already jumped the gun and named this a winner, so that obviously means that this gets a BUY IT rating.  While it may not have been a flavor that was anything more than the name of the flavor promised, it certainly delivered on that promise, so it was worth it to me.  While this may not be an addicting treat, it is a very pleasing one and if you appreciate raspberry flavored desserts, I think you'll find this appealing too.

BUY IT!!

  1. I disagree with your statement that this flavor is not an addicting treat. Oh.my.God - it was so divine - I"m really a chocolate person but just decided to try something different. I completely pigged out and ate the whole thing - all 900+ calories. I could not stop so I probably won't be buying this again until I get a grip on my willpower.

  2. Wow, you need to learn to use a wider range of adjectives. I've never seen so many "nice"s used in a supposedly expert review.
