Review: Honey Stinger Honey Organic Stinger Waffle

I will admit that doing reviews of new manufacturers sometimes excites me and I know that makes me a total dork.  A lot of times, this excitement stems from the fact that the product that I'll be reviewing is something that is different than the vast majority of products that I've reviewed on the blog previously and that's the case with today's review of this Honey Stinger Honey Organic Stinger Waffle.  Yep, it's a waffle.  Not only is it a waffle, it's an energy waffle!  Seriously, does that whole concept itself not sound like a ton of fun?  I picked up this potential source of excitement on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and each packaged organic energy waffle clocks in at 1.0 ounce with 160 calories and ZERO grams of protein.  The fact that I'm about to try something with no protein whatsoever just excites and amuses me even more!  LOL.

Being that this is named after the delightful breakfast food, it should come as no surprise that this has the standard checkerboard design and circular shape of a waffle.  What is a surprise is how exceedingly thin this was.  Not really an issue, but I guess I was surprised by that.  The waffle, while hard on the outside, bent quite easily and when I broke it in half for the picture above,  it revealed itself and it's dough-like interior.  The honey was mixed in the interior and also the entire waffle itself and it had a strong scent of honey, so I fortunately knew that I was not going to be cheated on honey, at least from an aroma perspective.  For all appearance perspectives, this reminded me of Stroopwafel, which is something that a lot of people dip in coffee and tea and Honey Stinger recommends doing that with this on their website.

When I bit into this, I was immediately met with with a very chewy waffle with a strong flavor of sugary honey.  The honey flavor was incredibly potent and I thoroughly enjoyed that.  What was also enjoyable was the fact that it mixed with with the actually composition of the waffle and that flavor just lingered deep in my throat with each passing moment.  There was no crunch in this, but there is not any crunch in waffles either, so that should come as no surprise.

Buy It or Fly By It?  There's not a lot to this other than doughy honey, so there isn't a lot of things to say about it.  Even with that, this thing was absolutely delicious and gets a BUY IT rating.  I bet this would be even better if I/you followed Honey Stinger's recommendation by dipping this into hot coffee or tea because I could just see this whole thing melting into that and becoming a delicious and "healthy" treat.  One thing of note though is if you are not a honey person, stay away from this because you'll end up getting overpowered.

BUY IT!!

  1. I believe the beverage you meant was "tea."

  2. I've tried a few of the Honey Stinger bars and I loved those... haven't tried the "waffles" though... will have to keep an eye out for these; sounds like something I would like.
