Review: Health Valley All Natural Apple Blueberry Fruit Yogurt Smoothie

I typically make a monthly visit to The Dollar Tree to stock up on ridiculously cheap and flimsy stuff that I have no need for.  Occasionally, I spot something that I can use as the subject for a review on the blog and that's what leads to today's review of this box Health Valley All Natural Apple Blueberry Fruit Yogurt Smoothies that I was able to grab for the obvious dollar.  It's not my first Health Valley review, but it is my first of a product that is not a cereal bar.  Each box of smoothies contains four individual smoothies and each smoothie is 4.2 ounces, has 80 calories and a lonely gram of protein.

I'm just going to immediately come out and say it...this was not what I was expecting at all.  Prior to me squirting this onto the spoon in the picture above, I expected a white colored yogurt with apple and blueberry flavoring.  I did not expect a brown yogurt AT ALL and frankly, something about it rubbed me the wrong way.  That said, the yogurt did have a nice smell of tart apples and the brown coloring was obviously due to those apples.  The yogurt was also quite thick as well, so that was nice I suppose.

While the color of the yogurt rubbed me the wrong way, the flavor did not.  In fact, the flavor of this yogurt reminded me of the jars upon jars of applesauce that I ate while growing up.  It has a similar textural feel in that it was somewhat chunky and it had a very similar taste too.  That means there was a lot of tart apple flavor, just a like a delicious applesauce.  The blueberry flavoring, on the other hand, was a virtual no-show.  I'm still having trouble processing where that flavor was as I think more and more about this.  Still, even without that blueberry flavor, this was enough was enough like applesauce that it more than made up for it.  Plus, the fact that this had that "cooling" type of flavor that yogurts typically have was an added benefit.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I thoroughly enjoyed squeezing this out of the tube and not only was the taste quite nice, the eating experience of the tube was fun as well.  Because of that, I give this a BUY IT rating.  I certainly would have liked a bit more blueberry flavor on this, but the applesauce-esque flavor that I got was more than adequate and definitely tasty.  I've never seen these at any regular store, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to pick them up (at the right price of course).

BUY IT!!
