Review: Silk Fruity & Creamy Blueberry Soy Yogurt

I'll be the first to admit, soy beans and yogurt do not seem like the ideal match, especially when it goes that extra mile to be dairy-free.  Actually, I'm not sure that sounds appetizing at all and I haven't had the best luck with soy yogurts on this blog before, but I was ready to try Silk's "yogurt alternative made with soy milk" when I grabbed this 5.3 ounce container of Silk Fruity & Creamy Blueberry Soy Yogurt at Kroger for $1.00.  Each cup is 140 calories and has six grams of protein.

The name states that this is fruity and creamy and I'll give them that based on the fact that the yogurt was surprisingly creamy and also smelled quite fruity with a strong blueberry smell.  It also had the blueberry yogurt coloring that I, along with everyone else, has come to expect as well.  There were also exceptionally tiny slivers of blueberries in the yogurt mix too, so in terms of presentation, they nailed it.

In terms of nailing it on flavor, they were somewhat close, I guess.  Each spoonful of creamy and cooling yogurt had an initial burst of blueberry flavor at the beginning, but at the back end of each spoonful, that soy taste started to overtake the blueberry flavoring.  It wasn't nauseating or off-putting, but it was definitely soy bean flavor and there was no mistaking that. That soy bean flavor lingered in an aftertaste as well, which was odd but not all that disgusting or distracting in the grand scheme of things.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'll be the first to admit that this was odd and it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for yogurt.  It is decent enough of a flavor that I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  That said, if yo don't have a dairy allergy, it's probably smarter to stick with full power yogurt as opposed to picking this up.  If you do have a dairy issue, this is a pretty decent product to consume, even with the odd aftertaste.

BUY IT!!

  1. I think your review is pretty off. There is no soy bean after taste that's weird to even say that. This yogurt is creamy, yummy, fruity and is 10x healthier for anyone than dairy yogurt.

  3. I have only tried the vanilla. It was very rich and creamy. The first bit tasted like vanilla icing and then you got a vanilla mixed with soy flavor. Great if milk is not your thing by choice of otherwise.
