Review: Fruttare Lime Ice Bars

I haven't quite completely figured out why, but I'm in love with trying out these new Fruttare bars.  Perhaps its because all my coupon apps and sites keep releasing coupons or perhaps its because I've had so much success with the flavors that I've already tried.  Whatever it is, I have no clue but I am led to yet another review with today's look a these Fruttare Lime Ice Bars.  I picked these up on sale at Kroger for $2.99 (I also had a Kroger app coupon...Boo-ya!).  Each box contains six 2.0 fluid ounce bars and each bar is a minimal 70 calories.  I'm sure that 2.0 fluid ounces means nothing when just looking at the raw number, but for a size comparison, think of a deck of cards.  I realize this bar is fruit juice, but seventy calories for a dessert treat isn't half bad.

Frozen fruit juice...that's all this is.  In this case, it's frozen lime juice and it definitely smells like lime and looks like lime juice with it's pale green hue.  Where this bar differs from the other Fruttare ice bars that I've tried and looked at is that there are no bits of fruit (at least visible ones) in the ice mixture.  I guess that isn't surprising though because lime juice is always more prevalent than lime chunks (unless you are drinking a vodka tonic).  So, that's enough about that.

After I took my first bite, I bet you can guess what I tasted...yep, lime.  It was alternatively tart and sweet and definitely had nice lime flavor, not that I should have expected anything different because this is just frozen lime juice.  One characteristic about this bar and the other Fruttare bars is that when these freeze, they aren't rock hard to the point that it makes your teeth hurt to chew them.  These have some give in them and for someone that likes to chew frozen ice bars, as oppose to licking/sucking them, I can appreciate that.  Outside of the lime flavor, there's nothing else going here here, not that there should be.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While I enjoyed this bar, I can't say that it's any better or worse than the store brand lime bars that you can buy out there for half (or less) of the cost.  For that reason, I can't just can't get behind these and give them a FLY BY IT rating.  That's a tough one for me since the flavor wasn't bad, but my wallet wins this round.  That said, if you are willing to pay a premium and want a lime bar, don't hesitate on these.

FLY BY IT!!
