Review: Chobani Lemon 0% Greek Yogurt

As I mentioned in a previous Chobani review, I've been trying to hit up the Chobani core flavors that I missed in my first trip through the Chobani flavor catalog, prior to them blowing up and introducing all sorts of new product lines.  That attempt leads me to today's review of another one of their basic flavors with this Chobani Lemon 0% Greek Yogurt that I picked up on sale at Meijer for $1.00.  Each non-fat yogurt cup clocks in at 6.0 ounces and has 140 calories with a robust fifteen grams of protein.  Nice.  It's also all natural, cholesterol free and gluten free, if you are into those kinds of things, which we all should be actually.  Sadly, we are not and that definitely includes me.

This was not the fruit on the bottom variety of Chobani yogurt products, so I wasn't really expecting a whole lot when I opened this up and I'm happy to say that Chobani met those expectations and passed them with flying colors!  Kidding aside, this was just as I expected (thick and creamy lemon-flavored yogurt) with one small addition:  there were some small lemon pulp bits sprinkled throughout the container of yogurt.  I can honestly say that I did not expect that and it was a nice little surprise honestly.  While the lemon pulp bits were not of any particular game-changing size, their presence alone made me more curious about something that would have ordinarily just been a boring cup of Greek yogurt.

In terms of taste, I was expecting something like this to be overwhelmingly incredibly tart and sour since it was basically combining two different flavors that possess those characteristics on top of each other.  What I got was something that was largely different.  Yes, it was tart and sour, but it was in a very manageable level.  In fact, it was what I would describe as very refreshing and something that I thoroughly enjoyed eating.  The lemon bits on their own didn't really make much of a difference, but they did provide a moderate grit to each spoonful so that it just wasn't filled with creamy yogurt.  I enjoyed that aspect as well.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Going in, I was kind of scared of this flavor in that I expected to be overpowered to the point of my nasal passages being cleared out.  Instead, I got something that was the perfect composition of strong and also incredibly pleasing lemon flavor, so this gets a BUY IT rating.  This was a very good effort by Chobani and it was so good, in fact, that I'm kind of remorseful that I waited until now to try it out.  That's a blown opportunity on my part.  Shame on me.

BUY IT!!

  2. I haven't seen Lemon Chobani over here but I really NEED to try some. Lemon is my favourite yogurt flavour and I have yet to find a strained yogurt in this flavour. Do you have Danio yogurts over there? Same sort of thing and they are REALLY good!
