Review: thinkThin Crunch Caramel Chocolate Dipped Mixed Nuts Bar

I like to think about being thin, don't you? Well apparently someone likes to think about it so much that they decided to manufacture bars with that name. So, after the worst two opening sentences in this blog's history, I'm led to another thinkThin review with this thinkThin Crunch Caramel Chocolate Dipped Mixed Nuts Bar. I picked this up at Kroger on sale for $1.00 and it has 190 calories and nine grams of protein. It's got a clear wrapper too, so there's not a lot of mystery to this bar.

Despite the lack of intrigue and mystery, it's still worth my effort to do a brief description of this bar because it has one MAJOR facet to it that a wrapper prevents a person from noticing. When I opened this wrapper, I was overcome by perhaps the strongest caramel smell I've come across in my lifetime. I mean, it was freaking huge. After nearly being knocked off my feet by the smell, I regrouped and took a look at the rest of the bar and it was clear that they would clearly meet the "Crunch" name in this bar because the mixed nuts of peanuts and almonds were large and ample those nuts were mixed with the typical soy crisp mix and then bound together by all the classic syrups and that over abundance of caramel (the wrapper does say this is "Wholesome Abundance," so I guess that's what they want). The base of the bar was a thick layer of chocolate that may or may not have had a smell, but I couldn't tell since the caramel had taken up temporary residence in my sense of smell.

When I bit into the bar, I can confirm the fact that it was crunchy and the nuts did an excellent job breaking up the texture of the soft soy crisps.  As for the flavor, it was 95% caramel and 5% everything else.  Basically, I could taste the almonds, but not the peanuts.  I think that's the first time I've ever had any kind of nut overpower peanut flavor.  Strange.  Outside of that almond taste, I could taste nothing else, not even the chocolate as all it did was provide a coating.  Like the smell, the chocolate may have had flavor, but I would never know because the caramel just lingered in mouth the entire time.  It wasn't an overly sweet caramel or an overly burnt caramel, it was just caramel...kind of like one of those little chewy caramel cube candies that you can buy.  All in all though, this bar could be described in one word:  caramel.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This all comes down to whether you can take or like caramel.  Personally I can take it and I do like it, so I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  That said, this was right on the fringe of being too much caramel and it nearly got the opposite rating for me.  But, since it toed the line and stayed in my good graces, I'll react positively to it.  That said, if you don't think you can take the brunt of this much caramel, it is perhaps best that you stay away or else you may feel caramel-drunk afterwards.

BUY IT!!

  1. Hmmm. I don't get an overly strong caramel taste at all. Very mild for me. I mostly taste the peanuts, and I do taste the chocolate a bit.

I eat 1-2 of these a day, so I know what I'm talking about.
