Review: Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Ice Cream

In my previous Haagen-Dazs reviews, I dug into their limited edition and gelato flavors.  In this review, I'm going to hit up one of their core flavors for the first time in my entire life as I take a look at this container of Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Ice Cream.  White chocolate?  Um, yes please.  I love, love, love white chocolate, so I'm hoping this is right in my wheelhouse.  I picked this up in a buy two, get one free sale, but it would ordinarily retail in the ballpark of $5.00 per container.  As for the container itself, it's fourteen ounces, which equates to 3.5 half-cup servings.  Each serving is a robust 280 calories.

To say I had high expectations prior to opening this pint...oops...container (it's a faux pint since it's missing two ounces) would be an understatement.  To say that this met my expectations on visual appearance would also be an understatement because after I pulled back the safety seal, I was mesmerized by the plethora of add-ins and swirls this wonderful creation contained (as you can see above).  First and foremost, you can see the obvious overabundance of raspberry swirl.  Incredible.  The swirl carried that strong raspberry smell and I obviously wasn't being cheated on the amount of swirl this contained either.  Also plentiful were the chocolate fudge truffle pieces as they were scattered big and small all throughout the container.  The white chocolate ice cream itself had and especially creamy texture.  There are those that say that you eat things with your eyes and after looking at this, my eyes were crying because they were wishing that they could literally eat.

Like all humans (this review is trending toward being bizarre), I eat with my mouth and my mouth enjoyed each spoonful of this ice cream with the level of zest that my eyes enjoyed looking at it.  The raspberry swirl was tangy and sweet and the chocolate fudge truffles added some crunch and wonderful chocolate depth to the entire package, just as well done fudge always does.  Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the white chocolate ice cream since it was the primary focal point and first named ingredient in the flavor.  I've got one word for you:  incredible.  It was sweet, creamy and decadent, although it was borderline mild.  What was nice about its mildness was that it wasn't overly rich to the point that it made your teeth rattle.  Instead, it was the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess that went right up to the line of crossing over into being too much, but instead toed the line perfectly.  When mixed with the tang of the raspberry swirl and the crunch and depth of the chocolate fudge truffles, this was truly an inspiring combination of flavors.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I often complain about the cost of Haagen-Dazs ice cream and that's why I stayed away for so long.  Even with those high prices, I would give this a BUY IT rating because this is worth every penny.  All I could think after having this was OH...MY...GOODNESS because, in my opinion, it's truly one of the best ice cream flavors I've ever tried.  I won't rank the flavors because I hate ranking things and think exercises like that are silly and a waste of time, but this one has to be in the conversation of the best I've had.  If you like decadence and sweetness that don't cross the line into absurdity, this is the perfect product for you.  I know it was pretty darn good for me.

*On Second Scoop

  1. This is my favorite ice cream flavor! But I always eat the entire container at once! (don't judge :D)

    1. It took every ounce of will power I had not to do the same thing!
