Review: Corazona's Cranberry Flax Oatmeal Square

Have you ever taken a DISC Assessment?  My work (outside of this blog obviously) is a big supporter of DISC assessments and when I take mine, I always end up as an extreme "C".  That means many things, but for the purposes of this blog, I'll point out that C's are generally resistant to change, which is why I personally find it amusing that I continually try and branch out and try out new products for this blog because it seems completely out of character if you believe the assessment.  It's that attempt to branch out that leads me to this second Corazona's review with this Corazona's Cranberry Flax Oatmeal Square that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  It's 1.76 ounces, has 180 calories, six grams of protein and six grams of fiber.  Unlike a C, this one is all over the board.

Opening up, there's no real surprise on this as it looks like a standard, pliable oatmeal square.  Outside of that, there's sizeable dried cranberries mixed in and it definitely smells "oat-y" for lack of a better way to describe it.  It also has a slight smell of cinnamon and since cinnamon and oatmeal belong together like peas and carrots (cite Forrest Gump's mother), that's always a good thing.

Being that the bar is primarily an oatmeal square, it should come as no surprise that this tastes like oatmeal.  It's a soft and chewy version, as if someone took you breakfast bowl and put it in bar, ahem, square form.  The dried cranberries bring a bit of tang to the occasion and also make this bar have a slightly gummy chew to it, as you'd expect if you've ever eaten any sort of dried fruit.  It's worth pointing out though that there is NO crunch in this bar.  It's chew all the way.  One thing that kinds of sneaks up on you, even though you already know it's in the ingredient list, is the cinnamon.  It's nowhere to be found until the very end where it comes in and kind of punches you in the face with its surprisingly strong spice.  That spices is muted by the tang of the cranberries and the natural blandness of the oatmeal, but it is enough that you'll definitely taste it going down.  I know I already made the comparison, but I'll make it again...this is just like your morning bowl of oatmeal with some dried cranberries and cinnamon mixed in re-packaged in square form.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'm like anyone (at least the Quakers) and I like a bowl of oatmeal, especially with dried fruit and cinnamon, so this gets a BUY IT rating from me.  It's not a knock-your-socks-off type of square, but it is flavorful enough, especially for those that like oatmeal like myself, that you'd find it an enjoyable snack and or quick meal replacement.

BUY IT!!
