Review: Skinny Cow Caramel Truffle Low Fat Ice Cream Bars

There's a work saying that goes "another day, another dollar" and that's the way I feel with these Skinny Cow reviews. It's another day, so it's time to do another review of this Skinny Cow Caramel Truffle Low Fat Ice Cream Bars. One by-product of this review week is that while the cow may be skinny, Crazy Food Dude is becoming decreasingly less so after eating all of these. Anyway, I picked this box of six bars up at the aforementioned Marsh super sale for $3.99. Each bar is 2.65 fluid ounces and a very economical 100 calories. It's also a three-pointer on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale.

As always, I'll leave it up to The Skinny Cow to describe this because her descriptions are always so much more romantic. She states this is "A truffle bar of low-fat caramel ice cream is finished with a drizzle of chocolatey ribbons."  I agree and one thing that was kind of neat and/or different about this was how soft the caramel ice cream was. It reminded me of a Fudgsicle in that respect. One thing this bar was lacking though was any sort of enticing aroma of caramel, chocolate or anything for that matter. Too bad.

Just like the aforementioned Fudgsicle, that soft texture was exactly what I got when I bit into this. What I didn't get was a lot if flavor that popped. Instead, the flavored were very mild. The caramel was barely perceptible and the chocolate was more of a coating than a flavor itself. This treat wasn't particularly sweet either, so what I was getting was the feel of ice cream, which is always a good thing, but only a mild hint of caramel or chocolate flavoring. Slightly disappointing, but the total package was good enough that this was passable.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Passable is hardly a glowing word, but the texture of something that was ice cream on a stick made this something I enjoyed, despite the tame flavors. Because of that, I give this a BUY IT rating. If you see this on sale at your store or don't mind spending a couple extra bucks (I'll call it the "Skinny Cow Tax"), pick this up and I think you'll enjoy it.
