Review: Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Chocolate Caramel Bar

Kashi and I haven't been the greatest of friends on this blog, but I'm a sucker for a sale and since I saw Kashi bars on sale at Kroger recently for $1.00, I knew I had to grab a couple of bars to try out, despite some of my past experiences with the bar.  This bar, the Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Chocolate Caramel Bar, comes in at 1.59 ounces with 150 calories and eight grams of protein.  It's also got a cute tagline on the wrapper with a disclaimer that states "Stay Full Longer*"  I work for a company that LOVES disclaimers, so anytime I see one, I always chuckle.  In this case, the Kashi disclaimer says that they intend for you to stay full longer by providing a mix of protein and fiber, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you will stay full longer.  Ah, lawyers...gotta love 'em, eh?

When you look at the wrapper of this bar, it looks kind of fun as there are graphical representations of caramel cor and chocolate chips.  When you unwrap the bar, the chocolate chips are nowhere to be found and the caramel corn is part of the bar's standard mix, I guess.  That mix is held together by a strong smelling caramel and then the bar itself is based with a thick chocolate layer, so I guess those chips have been magicall transformed into plain old chocolate.  Alright-y then.

When I git into this bar, my first and also primary taste of the entire bar was that of caramel.  That caramel flavor was caramel corn like, so at least the packaging representation of caramel corn was nailed.  The rice crisp mix also provided the airiness and crispiness of caramel corn as well and that surprised me because despite the fact that this bar had crisp in the name of the bar, I really wasn't expecting a crispy texture at all when I saw the rice crisp involved.  Overall, I have to admit that Kashi did an excellent job in all respects to caramel corn.  As for the chocolate, it added a thick coating of mild sweetness to the already sweet caramel corn and balanced out perfectly with it.  If you've ever had chocolate covered caramel corn, which is incredibly addicting, you will find that this is a reasonably accurate representation.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've already said that I find chocolate covered caramel corn to be incredibly addicting and since this does an reasonably good job of re-creating that addicting treat in a "healthy" bar form, this easily gets a BUY IT rating from me.  It's not a bar that is going to set the world on fire and make you scream to anyone and everyone that this is outstanding, but it will give you a feeling of simple pleasure after eating it because it is a tasty treat.  Still not sure about the filling part though...

BUY IT!!
