Review: thinkThin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar

In my last thinkThin review, I was decidedly unimpressed by what sounded like an awesome bar based on the product name.  In that same trip, I picked up another bar of what sounded like an awesome name to review and that leads me to this thinkThin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar.  Since I got this one on the same shopping trip to Kroger, it set me back $1.25.  It comes in at a dense 2.1 ounces and is 230 calories with twenty grams of protein, thus making it a "High Protein" bar.

With no product picture on the front of this packaging, I once again had no idea of what this would look like when I unwrapped it.  Based on my last experience, I had a general idea of what it may look like, but ultimately, it would have just been an educated guess.  What I got was a bar that was very similar to the last review, but obviously different in some aspects since it was a different flavor.  What was similar was that the bar was covered in a hard chocolate coating.  What was different was the interior of this bar.  It was the same protein mix from the last bar, but this one included cocoa powder in the protein mix, which gave it a brown, brownie-like appearance.  Another key difference was that within the protein mix, there were little bits of rice crisps scattered about, which using my giant brain, causes me to surmise that the rice crisp bits were included to bring the crunch part of the bar that was implied in the product's name.  According to the ingredient list, there were apparently some almonds in there too, but I couldn't find any.

Biting into the bar, there definitely was a fair amount of crunch provided by the rice crisps, so at least they succeeded there.  It was an airy crunch since it was from the rice crisps and not from almonds, which I would have preferred, but at least there was some crunch.  The protein interior was also soft and chewy like a brownie, so thinkThin succeeded in that respect as well.  As for the chocolate flavor, it was flat.  It didn't taste like dark chocolate and it didn't taste sweet like milk chocolate.  It was chocolate, but it was boring and it had a semi-strange aftertaste to it.  Not a disgusting aftertaste, just a different aftertaste.  The chocolate was dense though, so there was definitely no confusion as to what you were eating.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This is tough.  Like the last bar, it was not a bad bar, but it also wasn't a good one either.  Like I said, it was just boring and for that, it gets a FLY BY IT rating.  If someone handed this to me and it was the only thing I had to eat, I wouldn't resist, but given options for something else, I would choose something else.  It's because of that tepid response that I feel that you could definitely fulfill your hunger pangs in a different way.

FLY BY IT!!
