Review: Gorton's Tilapia Signature Grilled Fillets
I have mentioned on this blog before that I'm trying to train myself to like fish after many years of avoiding it at all costs. I know training myself be eating frozen, pre-packaged fish that you cook in the oven is kind of a lame way of doing it, but for me, it's a low risk was to find out what kinds of fish I do and do not like. Gorton's has a line of "healthy" grilled fish in their product catalog and being that I've already done some Gorton's reviews, Being that it is now Lent (for those of you that celebrate it) and now's as good of a time as any, I'm continuing to make my way through their grilled product selections with these Tilapia Signature Grilled Fillets. I picked up this box for $3.99 on sale (with a $1.00 off coupon) at Meijer and each box contains two fillets that check in at roughly 3.1 ounces per fillet. Each fillet is a waist slimming 80 calories with fifteen grams of protein.
Review: Good 'n Natural Peanut Butter Bar
As I do every week like the dork that I am, I was perusing through my local grocery ads for Marsh, Kroger and Meijer and when examining the Kroger ad, I found a new type of bar manufacturer that I had never seen before, Good 'n Natural. Created in Sun Valley, Idaho (advertised on the packaging as), yet strangely manufactured in New York, these bars are gluten free, dairy free and vegan friendly. It's also got fruits, nuts and seeds. What a trifecta!
Their bars were on sale for $0.99, so since I'm "tight" (read: cheap), I figured that price was right up my alley to head on over and buy some of these to give them a try. Good 'n Natural has four flavors currently and I picked up several of them and for the purposes of my review series, I'll start off with this Peanut Butter flavor bar. This one clocked in at a fairly robust two ounces and contained 230 calories and ten grams of protein.

Review: MET-Rx Protein Plus Creamy Cookie Crisp Bar
The fantastic and never ending protein bar adventure continues with today's review of the MET-Rx Pure Protein Creamy Cookie Crisp bar which is one of the more hardcore, meathead-type protein bars that I'll look at around here and is part of the continuing MET-Rx review series. This giant bar (3.17 ounces) packs 340 calories and 30 grams of protein, so if you are looking to calorie load or protein load, this is your bar. I purchased it at CVS for around $2.50.

Review: Chobani Apple Cinnamon 0% Greek Yogurt
As I mentioned in my review of Chobani's new Blood Orange 0% Greek yogurt, finding the other new Apple Cinnamon flavor was proving to be quite difficult as it was seemingly out of stock every time I went to the store. Finally though, I was able to find it at my friendly neighborhood Meijer and being that this was the most appealing out of all the new flavors by name only, I was anxious to try this out since apples and cinnamon are one of my favorite combinations around as I use them in parfaits, pancake toppings, etc.. Tony at A Sweet Score also had a glowing review, so that made me want it even more. I had a free product coupon from Chobani to get this, but it normally retails from Meijer for about $1.25. The yogurt cup is six ounces and contains 140 calories and fourteen grams of protein.

Review: Walden Farms Chocolate Dip
I've heard positive reviews on this Walden Farms Chocolate Dip before (check out Heidi's comment in my WIBIA post), so I was initially anxious to try it out after that post. That was some time ago and I've had this probably three different times since then as I was hoping for different results since the taste of some of these Walden Farms products vary from container to container (check out the first Anonymous comment in my Marshmallow Dip review). I picked this one up at Kroger for $3.49. As with all Walden Farms products, it's calorie and sugar free and I'm always a big fan of that.

Review: Quest Chocolate Brownie Protein Bar
One of the gaping holes in all the reviews of protein bars that I've done on this site is products produced by Quest. Well, I finally got some in stock via a Facebook promotion where they mailed me a couple to sample, so the first bar I'll be sampling for the blog is the Chocolate Brownie bar. This bar clocks in at a fairly robust 2.12 ounces and contains 170 calories and twenty grams of protein. In terms of size, caloric count and protein content, this is a very close competitor to Pure Protein bars that I have reviewed many times on this blog. Quest bars are low carb, gluten free and made with no artificial sweeteners or sugars, so they are one of the more healthy protein bars that you can find out there. Also, they are only available online, so you have to buy them there which makes it a bit of a hassle and is also the reason why I've never reviewed one for this blog. When you buy them online, they are roughly in the $2.00 range per bar.

Review: YoCrunch Strawberry Fruit Parfait
Did you ever read those choose your own adventure books when you were a child? You know, the ones where each chapter would present you with an decision to make and then you would move to a certain page based on that decision and if you were successful in navigating all decisions, you made it to the end of the book. If you chose poorly at any point, you were led to some sort of stopping point and you had to start over. I loved those books and the reason I bring that up is that this YoCrunch Strawberry Fruit Parfait reminds me of those books as it gives you the opportunity to eat your yogurt with/without nuts, with the fruit mix/not mixed with the yogurt and/or granola. Basically, it's a bunch of options. Before I get to the review, let's get the stats out of the way: I picked up a four pack of these four ounce containers at Meijer on sale for $2.00 (the regular price was around $2.75-$3.00, I believe) and each yogurt cup is seventy calories with two grams of protein for the fruit/yogurt mix and if you decide to add the granola to the mix, the counts go up to one hundred calories and three grams of protein.

Review: Skinny Cow Vanilla Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwich
This is my second Skinny Cow product review here at the blog. In my first review, I found that the taste of the bar didn't really justify the cost of the bar and gave it a FLY BY IT rating. Still, in my never ending quest for "healthy" desserts (and also armed with a $1.00 off coupon), I marched myself into my local CVS and picked up a box of these Vanilla Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches. There's six per box I used my coupon, couple with a sale, to pick this up for $2.99. Each sandwich contains 140 calories and comes in at a fairly decent sized four fluid ounces per sandwich. In fact, I would say this is comparable to your typical ice cream sandwich in size, just shaped a bit differently.

Review: Quaker Chewy Chocolate Chunk Granola Bar
Next in line in Quaker's seemingly endless parade of Chewy Bar flavors is the Chocolate Chunk bar. Clocking in at 90 calories and 0.84 ounces, this is part of the Low Fat line of their Chewy granola bars. I bought these as part of a 48-count variety pack at Sam's Club, so I can't address an individual price but it's pretty cheap.
Review: JELL-O Oreo Pudding Snack
Full disclosure here: Like Tony from A Sweet Score, I've never been one of those people that thinks Oreos are the best thing in the entire world. I like them and I appreciate them, so it's not like I hate them, but I feel there are better manufactured cookie options out there than Oreos. For example, Nutter Butters are better than Oreos. That said, while I feel that Oreos are somewhat overrated, I was still willing to approach this JELL-O Oreo Pudding Snack review with no biases and explore these to see how they matched up against the real thing (I also had a commenter in my S'mores pudding post give a strong recommendation) and also see if they helped quench my pudding obsession. I picked up a six pack of these four ounce cups at Meijer on sale for $2.50. Each pudding snack contains 110 calories. Also of note is that while the some of my JELL-O reviews have focused on the sugar free options, this one does contain sugar, so there is nothing even remotely healthy about this.

Review: Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe Bar
My friendly neighborhood Meijer has a quite a selection of these Pure Protein bars, so I picked up one of each for review purposes (and to eat obviously). This Chocolate Deluxe bar, along with all the others I purchased, was $1.29 per bar. Loaded up with 180 calories and 20 grams of protein in a compact, but dense, 1.76 ounces, let's see how this one measured up to the others and also see if it is worth a darn.

Review: JELL-O Strawberry Sundae Pudding Snack
Here in 2012, JELL-O has introduced two new pudding cup flavors. I've already reviewed the S'mores flavor, but next up for the new product introductions is the Strawberry Sundae pudding cup. These both are due to be introduced nationally in March, but they've been available at my local Meijer for a few weeks now. I picked this six pack of pudding cups up on sale for $2.50 this past weekend and each pudding cup is four ounces and 110 calories, just like the S'mores flavor.

Review: Weight Watchers Smart Ones Spicy Szechuan Style Vegetables & Chicken
Google Analytics is a handy tool. I've already run posts based on data I've seen on there and this post is another one because apparently people like to search for reviews on Weight Watchers Smart Ones products. Seems odd to me, but hey, I'm looking for page views, so that leads me to pander to the masses and try out this Spicy Szechuan Style Vegetables & Chicken microwave meal. Yes, this is a microwave meal...there are no directions on how to make this anywhere else. Not that I need or want those directions, but I do find the lack of options to be amusing. Anyway, I picked this one up at Marsh on sale for $1.99 and the meal clocks in at a semi-respectable 9.0 ounces. It contains 240 calories and if you are into the Weight Watchers Points Plus scale type of thing, it is a six point meal on the scale.

Review: fullbar Chocolate Caramel Bar
I've seen one of these fullbars (so "cute" with the all lowercase name) in my mom's cupboard for almost a year, so based on her lack of regard or urgency for eating it, I wasn't exactly excited to try this one out. Still, being the excellent blogger that I am, I saw fullbars on sale at CVS for $1.25 recently and picked up a couple of varieties. For my first review, I'll go with the Chocolate Caramel flavor since it was the one I was most anxious to try since I love that flavor combination. This bar comes in at 1.59 ounces with 160 calories, five grams of protein and five grams of fiber.
Before I hop into the review, I want to do a quick rundown on the design intention of this bar. First of all, it's a bar designed by an actual bariatric surgeon (Michael A. Snyder, M.D.) to aid in weight loss. Apparently you are supposed to eat one of these and drink sixteen ounces of water thirty minutes prior to your lunch or dinner and the bar will react to the water in your stomach and make you feel more full that you eat less. Basically, you are eating a flavored sponge as the bar will "expand" when mixed with the water. Interesting concept and if it actually works, I could see this becoming huge.

Review: Zone Perfect Chocolate Coconut Crunch Nutrition Bar
This is the third Zone Perfect Nutrition bar that I've reviewed and while I was very impressed with the first two and gave them BUY IT reviews, let's see if this one turns out equally as well (fingers crossed!). This time I'm looking at the Chocolate Coconut Crunch flavor. It's from the All-Natural Classics line of bars and for semantics purposes, I picked it up on sale at Kroger for $1.00. It weighs in at 1.76 ounces like most of their bars, consists of 210 calories and also fifteen grams of protein.

Review: Chobani Blood Orange 0% Greek Yogurt
In 2012, Chobani introduced several new flavors of their zero percent fat Greek yogurts and I was anxious to try some of them out. Oddly, this review of the Blood Orange flavor was not one that I was anxious to try out because blood oranges mixed with Greek yogurt did not seem all that appealing to me. When I was younger, I LOVED orange flavored anything, but ate/drank so much that I've kind of burned out on orange flavored products as I've gotten older. But, since this one was actually available in the store (Apple Cinnamon was my first choice and has proven elusive to me as it has been sold out in three different stores thus far), I went ahead and picked it up and this is my first review of one of the new flavors. This yogurt comes in a six ounce cup and contains 140 calories and fourteen grams of protein. I got this via a free product coupon from Chobani itself, but it usually retails in the $1.25 range.

Site News: Feel The Burn
If you follow my Twitter feed at all (if not, I encourage you to do so), you may have seen this post recently:
Because of my foolishness, this is going to end up being a benefit to you. Well, that's depending on how you view it. Because I want to burn through (see how I tied the title of the post to this; I'm pretty clever) some of this content that I've already written and also provide more material for you to read, if you so choose, I'm going to continue on my daily posting schedule with one addition: on certain days, I'm going to post two reviews. What a bonus (I write that dripping with sarcasm)! This will probably happen at least three times a week and will most likely happen between Monday and Friday since that's when most people visit the site. This will all start next week.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know the change in plans (if you care) and let you know that I'm going to be around for a long while to come. Again, thanks for reading and I hope everyone enjoys the increase in content!
Have got a 3.5 month backlog (posting daily) of content in queue at CrazyFoodDude . com. Maybe I eat and/or write too much?LOL.Yeah, it's true. I have a three and a half month backlog of posts in my queue of material that I've already written and need to get posted before I can even address the at least two month backlog of products I've got in my cabinets and refrigerator at home that need to be reviewed (full disclosure: most products are energy/nutrition/protein bars). When I started this site, I never thought I would have so much material so fast, so I didn't do the world's best job of planning.

Review: CLIF Carrot Cake Energy Bar
Continuing the theme of the week, CLIF seemingly has an infinite amount of varieties of their original (and 70% organic) CLIF Bar product line and being the comprehensive sort of fellow that I am, it was time to try out the Carrot Cake flavor of their original product line. This one is a healthy sized bar clocking in at 2.4 ounces with 240 calories and nine grams of protein. It's not a high protein I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.09.

Review: CLIF Kid Z Bar Chocolate Brownie
I've reviewed the CLIF Kid Z Bar Full Moon Brownie before and this Chocolate Brownie bar is essentially the same product minus the white chocolate chips. Again, it's roughly the same size in surface area as a Quaker Chewy bar, but it is a bit more dense at 1.26 ounces. It clocks in at 130 calories and a humorously minuscule three grams of protein. In all fairness though, it's technically designed for kids, but it does make a nice little snack size bar for adults like me too. I picked this one up at Meijer for $0.69.

Review: CLIF Builder's Vanilla Almond Protein Bar
It's the entirely natural protein bar! Actually, I don't doubt that, I just find that a funny tagline on the front of the packaging. Anyway, here is another bar in CLIF's line of Builder's protein bars, the Vanilla Almond bar. The first bar I had was quite tasty, so I was looking foward to this one as well, especially since I not only like vanilla and almonds separately, but put together, this sounded fairly decadent. Each bar clocks in at 2.4 ounces, which is typical CLIF Bar size and contains 270 calories with twenty grams of protein. I picked this one up for roughly $1.70 at Meijer (I had a buy one, get one free coupon, so that is an approximate price).

Review: LUNA White Chocolate Macadamia Nutrition Bar
I've covered before how I don't think I look like a woman and was duped/bullied into buying these LUNA bars that are specifically made for women, but since I was duped, I might as well finish reviewing my purchases and that leads me to the White Chocolate Macadamia Nutrition bar produced by LUNA (a subsidiary of CLIF, so this fits right in with the theme of the week). This one is 70% organic and weighs in at 1.69 ounces with 190 calories and nine grams of protein. I picked it up on Kroger (from the bully) for $1.00.

Review: Balance Bar Bare Blueberry Acai Bar
I interrupt this week's CLIF Bar week programming to essentially what could be considered a sponsored review. Starting today, February 15th, Balance Bar is releasing a new product from their Bare line of bars (basically trail mix bars), the Blueberry Acai bar (no website for it yet). You should be able to find these in stores officially next week, but Balance Bar shipped a box of these to me in advance in hopes that I would do a review for the site and being that the bar is being introduced to the press today, I wanted to make sure that I was able to get it out there pronto. I would imagine this would cost roughly the same as a typical Balance Bar (around $1.00) and it weighs in at the Balance Bar standard of 1.76 ounces. The bar contains 200 calories and 15 grams of protein.

Review: CLIF Mojo Dipped Chocolate Peanut Trail Mix Bar
CLIF has a seemingly endless amount of product lines. Original energy bars, protein bars, trail mix bars, women's bars, etc. Since I'm the type of guy that likes to cover everything, it's time to try out on of their sweet and salty Mojo Trail Mix bars. They even have different varieties of their Mojo bars as they have the regular bars and also the dipped bars. For these purposes, I tried out one of the dipped bars and got the Dipped Chocolate Peanut variety. It was on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and weighs in at a semi-smallish 1.59 ounces with 200 calories and eight grams of protein.

Review: CLIF Builder's Cookies & Cream Protein Bar
If you were to take a look at CLIF's website, you'd see that they have a ton of different products (I've reviewed several) and because of that, I'm lead to the Builder's bar line and specifically the Cookies & Cream flavor. Builder's bars are CLIF's entirely natural line of products aimed specifically at the protein bar market. I picked this one up for $1.69 at Kroger and the under the hood details include 2.4 ounces by weight, 270 calories and twenty grams of protein.

Review: CLIF Coconut Chocolate Chip Bar
CLIF has kept me busy on this blog and it's time for the first CLIF Bar review of the week. This time, it's one of their "new" (at the time of my purchase) flavors, the Coconut Chocolate Chip bar. I picked this one up for $1.00 at Kroger and it clocks in at 2.4 ounces packing 240 calories and ten grams of protein. Coconut is a flavor that I disliked for most of my life, but I've recently developed a taste for it and because of that, I was anxious to give this bar a try.

Site News: Jump off a CLIF (Bar) Week
Quick Blog Status Update:
It's time again for this month's protein/energy/nutrition/etc. bar week and this week, I'm sticking to products manufactured by CLIF and their various product lines. When I say manufactured by CLIF, I include both CLIF Bars and also LUNA Bars. These will supplement the reviews I've already done, so we'll have quite a bank of CLIF products here going forward (and it will continue to grow).
So, starting tomorrow and continuing for the next seven days, this is what you'll be seeing on the blog. I know I'm pumped and I'm sure you are too! See you tomorrow morning with the first review!
Review: MorningStar Farms Meal Starters Sausage-Style Recipe Crumbles
[Editor's Note: This product has been discontinued. DOH!]
I haven't exactly had the best luck with MorningStar Farms reviews on this blog. While I've always found their vegetarian products to be mostly tasty, I've always found the cost/portion size of the products to be cost prohibitive and not something that I'd want to spend money on. Being that my wallet is a glutton for punishment, I decided I'd try again using these MorningStar Farms Meal Starters Sausage-Style Recipe Crumbles (I can't find a good link on the website; looks like they may have discontinued this, so uh-oh). I picked these up on sale (a key reason for my purchase) at Marsh for $2.99 since I had a $1.00 off coupon.
They say that one twelve ounce package of this is the equivalent to one pound of ground sausage, so when you look at the regular price, it's not really a ton different from the price of ground sausage at the supermarket. When you factor in the coupon that I had, it becomes an even better deal. FYI, each serving in the package contains 90 calories, so it's definitely "healthier" than sausage. Costs aside, how did this one taste?

Review: Kashi GOLEAN Roll! Chocolate Peanut Protein & Fiber Bar
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you would know that I have not exactly had good experiences reviewing Kashi products. In fact, the reviews I've done have found them to be terrible. Still, being the glutton for punishment that I am, I was willing to give this Chocolate Peanut Protein & Fiber bar a shot to see if it could break the loser streak for Kashi. I picked this one up for $1.29 at Meijer and it clocks in at 1.94 ounces with 190 calories and twelve grams of protein.

Review: Chobani Honey 0% Greek Yogurt
This is not the first Chobani review here and I'm sure it won't be the last as companies always look for reasons to introduce new flavors into their product lines. I've had varying successes and failures with Chobani, so the next flavor to look at is the Honey flavored zero percent fat Greek Yogurt. This one weighs six ounces, has 150 calories and contains sixteen grams of protein. I picked it up on sale at Kroger for $1.00.

Review: Kellogg's Special K Double Chocolate Protein Meal Bar
I've talked before about how seemingly everyone is trying to enter the protein bar market and I've even reviewed Kellogg's Special K bars before. Next up in the Kellogg's Special K series is the Double Chocolate Protein Meal Bar. It's 170 calories with 10 grams of protein and weighs in at a relatively light 1.59 ounces. I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.09.

Review: Magnum Almond Ice Cream Bar
As I brought up in my previous Magnum review, Magnum bars were all the rage last summer when they made their way across the big pond to America. I'm a sucker for marketing (I work in marketing in real life, so it's understandable), so I wanted to try out as many flavors of the bars that I could, so that leads me to this Almond Ice Cream bar. It clocks in at 79 grams, if that means anything to you, so it is a fairly decent sized ice cream bar. Each bar also claims 270 calories, so it is not exactly healthy, but honestly, dessert rarely can be classified as healthy. I can't remember the price exactly, but I think I picked up a three pack of these at Marsh for around $3.99.

Review: Dannon Oikos Black Cherry 0% Greek Yogurt
Dannon Oikos had a commercial in the Super Bowl last night and if it's good enough for John Stamos, it's good enough for me to do my second Dannon Oikos review, so I'm excited! I bet you are excited too! Ha! Anyway, my first Oikos review ended up with me being presently surprised by how much I liked Dannon's "premium" Greek yogurt (it's "premium" because it costs the same as all other Greek yogurts with the exception of the fact that you get 0.7 less ounces of yogurt). In this review, I'll be taking a look at the Black Cherry flavor. This one contains 5.3 ounces of yogurt with 130 calories and twelve grams of protein. I picked it up on sale at Marsh for $1.00.

Review: EAS Myoplex Chocolate Chocolate Chip Bar
Chocolate...a flavor so nice that EAS said it twice when they named this Chocolate Chocolate Chip bar. I'll go ahead and sarcastically pat myself on the back for that stupendously awesome opening line. Okay, maybe not. Anyway, down to business with my second EAS review (first review here). This bar rocks a large 2.65 ounces with 280 calories and a robust 25 grams of protein. I picked this one up on sale at my local neighborhood Meijer for roughly $1.50.

Review: Quaker Popped Caramel Corn Rice Snacks
Editor's Note: While the product has stayed the same, Quaker now markets these under a different named and they are now called "Quaker Popped Rice Snacks." The review below applies the same.
When I peruse the Quaker Oats Products website, I see that I've tried all but one of their flavors (there are fifteen of them on the site; I've tried one that is not listed on the site), so you are going to be seeing a lot more of these reviews on the blog. But hey, this site is about getting review content out there for the general public, right? Well, that's at least what I tell myself. Anyway, next in the series of Quaker Quakes rice snacks are the Caramel Corn Quakes variety. As I've said on this site before, I love Caramel, so this one seems like it would be right in my wheelhouse. At 110 calories per serving (about three servings per bag), it's not a belt buster either. These were purchased on sale at Meijer for around $1.00.

Review: Larabar Pecan Pie Food Bar
In my book, Larabar is one of the better companies out there when it comes to dreaming up flavors that sound sinful and/or want to make me eat my hand. I've already done some Larabar reviews here of flavors that wanted to make me eat my hand at that time and this Pecan Pie flavor is no different. When Thanksgiving and the holidays come, pumpkin flavored products (oddly, not pumpkin pie itself) and pecan pie are the two things I look most forward to. Since I'm a jerk, my family falls in behind those. I picked this one up at Kroger for $1.00 and it clocks in at a smallish 1.6 ounces with 220 calories and only three grams of protein.

Review: JELL-O S'mores Pudding Snack
As I was aimlessly wandering through my local Meijer recently, I happened to find myself standing in the dairy portion of the store in front of one of my favorite areas of the case, the pudding section. I was browsing the case looking for my standard sugar free JELL-O offerings and when I looked down toward one of the bottom shelves, I came across this JELL-O offering, the S'mores pudding cup flavor (no specific website info is available). I had never seen this before and using my strong powers of deduction and the fact that it said "New!" on the packaging, I knew that it was a new product and that I had to have it and give it a try. It's not my standard sugar free and "healthy" JELL-O purchase like I've reviewed in the past, but sometimes curiosity takes over and it got the best of me here. So, I picked up a six pack on sale for $2.50 and went on my merry way. Each pudding cup is four ounces and has 110 calories, by the way.

Review: Yoplait Strawberry Greek Yogurt
I'm slowly but surely developing a taste for Greek yogurt. It's odd and off-putting at first, but once you get used to the fact that it's going to be creamy and tart, it becomes just like any other food product in that you recognize how it's going to be and you just find the flavors that you like. In that quest, I'm led to Yoplait's Strawberry Greek yogurt flavor. It comes in a six ounce container packing a robust 160 calories, fourteen grams of protein and zero fat. I picked this one up on sale at Meijer for $1.00.
