Review: Nabisco SnackWell's Cinnamon Raisin Cereal Bar

In my continuing voyage through the incredibly competitive cereal bar market, which is mystifying to me by the way, I've got another review of a bar that I've received via my favorite time of the day...company snack time!  Naturally, I didn't pay for this (my hard work did), so I can't identify a cost.  What I can identify is that this Nabisco SnackWell's Cinnamon Raisin Cereal Bar is 1.23 ounces with 140 calories and a surprising eight grams of protein.  It's my first ever review of a SnackWell's product, which is one the huge list of mass marketing product manufacturers, so we'll see how this goes.

Prior to opening up the wrapper, I expected this to look like any other cereal bar with a cereal bar soft texture and a fruit filling.  Imagine my surprise when I opened this up and saw that it was built more like a nutrition bar with a soy crisp base and chunks of fruit spread throughout.  I'm trying to be a smart alack, but I was legitimately surprised by that.  Anyway, the bar itself smelled strongly of cinnamon and had several good-sized raisin chunks spread throughout, so they were at least delivering in those two components.  One other surprising characteristic about this bar was the fact that it was topped by a cinnamon infused yogurt swirl, which is something that nearly every cereal bar that I've ever tried has lacked.

Biting into this, it was crunchy as I'd expect from a soy crisp bar, so that made it different from a typical cereal bar as well.  It tasted strongly of cinnamon although the cinnamon flavor did not have that overwhelming "heat" that cinnamon flavor can have from time to time.  What heat there was though was quickly dissipated by the yogurt icing on top, so all in all, the cinnamon flavor in this was wonderful.  Punctuating that hot/cool aspect of the cinnamon and icing was the sweetness and pop of the raisins that were mixed intermittently through the crunch of the bar.  They also provided a nice textural break up from the crunchiness of the soft raisins, so it made for a nice combination.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can honestly say that I loved this bar and found it potentially addicting, so it gets a BUY IT rating.  I've always the cinnamon and raisin combination to be one of my favorites and this bar does that combination no injustices at all.  In fact, all it does is reinforce my love of it.  If you love that combination as much as I do or even like it at all, you are going to like this bar.

BUY IT!!

  3. I am furious that they pulled this product! The recommended replacements either taste terrible or are too high on the glycemic index.

  4. I started eating the South Beach bars when they first came out and they were good, but then they were discontinued. Then I realized that Snackwell's cereal bars where the same thing and I absolutely love them, except that they don't have the maple nut and the cranberry almond flavors. Then the South Beach bars came back out and I don't know what they did, but they're lousy. Now I'm having a very hard time finding the Snackwell cereal bars. What's up? Everytime I like something, it's discontinued!!

  6. I'm also very disappointed Snackwell's Cereal Bars are discontinued. The South Beach Bars are the closest to Snackwell's but are not nearly as good.
