Review: Dannon Light & Fit Blueberry Greek Yogurt

It seemingly took forever for my local grocery stores to get Dannon's Light & Fit Greek yogurt products into their refrigerator cases.  Once they started stocking them though, I didn't hesitate to start picking them up for review.  I've previously reviewed the Cherry flavor and loved it, so I was especially anxious to try out the next flavor in the product line with this look at the Dannon Light & Fit Blueberry Greek Yogurt.  I got this one at Kroger on sale for $3.49 for a four container pack.  Each container is 5.3 ounces and 80 calories with twelve grams of protein.  Like I said last time, I'm not sure how they limit this to a very manageable eight calories, but I'm glad that they do.

As with the last flavor, this is constructed just the same with the fruit on the bottom.  In this case, it's obviously blueberry.  One thing I noted in particular that was different about this version was that the yogurt itself smelled stronger and more tart than the cherry flavor did.  Not an issue, just an observation.  As for the fruit on the bottom, this one was more of a "jam" than a collection of fruit pieces mixed with a jam like the Cherry flavor was.  There were little tiny bits of blueberry, but nothing that could be visibly identified as a blueberry itself.  The blueberry smell was pretty much just standard blueberry smell, so there's no reason to waste any more time on the description.

Similar to the strength of the smell, the plain yogurt in this cup had a stronger tart taste than Cherry flavor did as well.  Last time, I found it remarkable how much the yogurt tasted like regular yogurt, but in the case of this Blueberry flavor, the Greek yogurt tasted more like Greek yogurt with its strength of tang.  It wasn't particularly thick in texture, but it was of course thicker than regular yogurt.  As for the blueberry taste, I would classify it as fairly bland.  It was clearly blueberry flavor, but there was no particular strength in the sweet taste or in the tangy taste that blueberries can sometimes can have.  It was just a moderately blueberry flavored conglomeration of jam.  Being that the yogurt itself was more tart than I expected, the mildness of the blueberry flavoring was probably a good thing because if this had been particularly sweet or tangy, it may have ruined the cup.  So, for perhaps the first time ever, I think I can say that blandness saved a product and that's not a description that I would usually think of as a positive like I do in this case.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Bland blueberry flavor or not, I still found this to be quite a good flavor and I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  This Light & Fit Greek yogurt line is really growing on me to the point that I'm starting to crave these yogurt cups as I type these reviews.  That's odd for me as I usually only crave things that are candy or ice cream like, so if I'm craving a yogurt, it must be pretty good.

BUY IT!!
