Review: Walden Farms Creamy Italian Salad Dressing

It's funny, on the day that I am actually typing this review (I do most of them well in advance), I've got a Walden Farms review up on the blog.  When I take a look at the Walden Farms review history on the blog, I've done somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty reviews, depending on when you read this.  Based on that sheer volume of reviews that I have done, I think I've got a pretty good handle on Walden Farms products and while it that review archive will continue to grow, I pretty much know what to expect when reviewing these products.  Somewhat acidic taste (some stronger than others), high sodium content, calorie free, gluten free, fat free, etc.  Basically, these products are miracles out of a science lab and it's no different with this Walden Farms Creamy Italian Salad Dressing.  I picked this one up at Netrition.com for $3.79 and it's a twelve ounce bottle.

Being that "creamy" is in the name of this product, one would expect it to have some degree of thickness to it and that is definitely the case.  It used to be that Walden Farms products were extremely thin and runny, but as time has passed, they have changed their recipe slightly and they have developed a bit of texture to them.  It's certainly not as thick as your typical variety salad dressing, but it at least gives the impression that it is thicker and creamier.  Also helping the "creamy" aspect of this one is the brilliant Walden Farms scientists have given this one white food coloring in order to convey that creamy trickery.  They are soooo brilliant.  Anyway, also involved in the mix of this creamy dressing are small flecks of garlic, pepper, salt and other "natural" spices.  Smell-wise, this one smells slightly acidic, but in the case of an Italian dressing, that's clearly what you are looking for.

Sometimes if it walks like duck and talks like a duck, that means it is a duck.  In this case, this one smells like Italian dressing and also tastes like Italian dressing too.  It has that tangy acidity that you find in your typical Italian dressings and the mix of spices give it that kick that you might expect from Italian dressing as well.  The "creamy" portion of the mix dulls the tang as well (I've had other Italian dressings from Walden Farms and they are very tangy, so that's the basis I'm using for my comparison), so this becomes a tangy, albeit slightly duller version of an approximation of Creamy Italian salad dressing.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've got to admit that I used to think a lot of the Walden Farms salad dressings were mediocre products at best, but this one continues a recent winning streak that I've had with their dressings and their products in general, so it gets a BUY IT rating.  If you are looking for a healthier, albeit sodium heavy, alternative to full flavor/high calorie salad dressing, this is absolutely a tasty alternative.  I just wish these products were cheaper so I don't keep driving myself close to the poor house by purchasing these constantly.

BUY IT!!
