Review: Kellogg's Special K Sour Cream & Onion Cracker Chips

In my prior reviews, I've had some pretty good experiences with these cracker chips.  They are very potato tasting which should be one of the most obvious statements of all time being that these are basically baked potato chips.  That said, the strength of the potato flavoring did surprise me as I was expecting something more along the lines of a rice cake.  Anyway, those experiences have led me to be more open to trying more flavors from this product line, so that leads me to today's review of these Kellogg's Special K Sour Cream & Onion Cracker Chips that I picked up in the monster Special K sale at Meijer for $2.50.  Each box is 4.0 ounces of fun and contains 3.5 servings at 110 calories per serving.  As a reminder, Special K describes a serving as 27 cracker chips.

Being that I've already covered these cracker chips a couple of times previously, there is not a whole lot that I've left unsaid about the general description of these.  Being that they are baked and not fried in oil, they are light and airy.  They also have a strong potato smell that goes along with the smell of the flavor of choice. In the case of this one, there was a strong smell of sour cream with a slight hint of onion that gave off an almost Ranch dressing smell.  The chips were also lightly dusted in that white and green powder that you see in just about every Sour Cream & Onion flavored product out on the market.

In terms of the taste, the string of strong potato presence continued as these had an overwhelming taste of potato with a slight accent of the other flavoring.  In terms of the sour cream versus onion, the sour cream definitely took the lead in this and had quite strong flavor.  The onion part of the equation was more of an afterthought.  In comparison to the countless sour cream and onion flavored products that I've had in my life, I would put the sour cream flavor in these cracker chips right up toward the top in terms of potency.  There's nothing wrong with that as these still had good flavor, it just something that I didn't expect.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This is pretty much a standard type of chip flavor in that there are so many variations of this combo out there and I can easily say that Special K did well enough with this one that I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  It's not a spectacular chip, but it delivered solidly enough that it is worth a purchase.  In fact, the potato and sour cream flavors were so strong that you could almost make a case that you were eating a baked potato here, minus the bacon, of course.  Drizzle some bacon grease on these (very healthy), close our eyes and you might even be able to dupe yourself into thinking you are eating a baked potato.  LOL.

BUY IT!!
