Review: KIND Plus Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein Bar

So I said in one of my previous KIND reviews that I was going to try to start reviewing more KIND bars as they were one of the major bar manufacturers and the only bars I'd ever reviewed were ones that I had received for free via KINDING Missions on their website.  In this effort to increase these reviews, I actually paid for a KIND bar for the first time and this KIND Plus Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein Bar is the result of that.  Since I did pay for it, I might as well say that I got it on sale at Kroger for $0.99 and it comes in at 1.4 ounces with a fairly robust (for KIND) 200 calories and also a robust (for KIND) seven grams of protein.  It's one of their Plus bars and the plus in this instance is the protein since it has peanut butter and extra nuts.

Being that KIND has clear packaging, there's never a surprise as to what the bar looks like and what you see is what you get.  In the instance of this bar, since it was heavy on protein, it was also heavy on a plethora of very large nuts.  Those nuts included almonds, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, macadamia and Brazil nuts.  That seriously might be the most amount of nuts I've ever seen in one small place and I've been in a lot of locker rooms in my life.  And yes, that was a horrible attempt at humor by me.  Anyway, the bar starts off with a base layer of dark chocolate that is then topped by that nut and rice crisp mixture that is held together by honey and peanut butter.  The bar smells strongly of peanut butter, so they definitely don't short you on that.  The bar is then topped off with a decorative swirl of dark chocolate "icing" and after examination, I was looking forward to what I surely expected to be a crunchy treat.

And crunchy it was.  In fact, this might have been the crunchiest bar that I've ever reviewed on this bar and being that crunch is one, if not my favorite, characteristics of food, I absolutely loved that.  Since there were so many nuts in this bar, not a single one of their flavors stood out as the clear leader, but I could definitely taste a little bit of all of them as I chewed my way through the bar, which is kind of crazy when you consider how many different flavors were pulling you in all directions.  The peanut butter added a heart flavoring and that was capped off by the dark chocolate flavor which mainly just coated the heartiness and didn't really bring anything else to the table since it was dark chocolate and doesn't inherently have a particularly large amount of sweetness.  What sweetness there was in the bar was provided by the honey, but that was minimal at best.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I loved everything about this bar even though I personally am not the world's biggest fan of dark chocolate, so this gets an overwhelmingly strong BUY IT rating.  Like I said, this is crunchy in every sense of the word, so if you love crunch as much as I do, you are really going to like this bar.  You might even think it is awesome like I did too.

BUY IT!!

  1. I haven't had this one yet -- will be on the lookout for it.

If you haven't tried it already, I highly recommend their Peanut Butter and Strawberry bar. It's not super-crunchy, but it tastes like a PB&J sandwich!
