Review: Fage Total 2% Greek Yogurt with Peach

One of my favorite things about the summer is the plethora of peaches that make it into the grocery stores.  What I like even more, since I'm a Grade A bargain shopper, is that the prices of those peaches go way down to the point that the stores are almost giving them away.  That said, it seems pretty odd that I'd want to add to my Fage Greek yogurt review series with a review of a pre-packaged peach product with this Fage Total 2% Greek Yogurt with Peach single serving cup as opposed to eating something fresh, eh?  Oh well, I guess that's why this blog is named like it is.  Anyway, this was picked up on sale at Kroger for $1.00 as usual and each cup is 5.3 ounces with 140 calories and twelve grams of protein.

Not a lot to say here.  It's the typical Fage sidecar design with the yogurt and fruit split.  The difference in this one is the fruit and the peach compartment is more of a peach jam or puree than anything else.  There are no real discernible peach chunks and it's kind of gelatinous.  Also, what makes it odd, is that the smell is a bit off too and yes, this was still safe to eat as it didn't expire for at least a couple weeks.  Anyway, I can't really describe the smell, but you'll just have to trust me that it was off.

I'd like to say that the taste was off too, but I couldn't really taste anything as the peach flavoring itself was very, very bland.  There was little-to-no sweetness and the fact that it was more of a puree than a jam with chunks in it.  Quite disappointing.  Also, since there was no texture, it didn't really break up the composition of the typical thick, creamy and tart plain yogurt.  In fact, it really brought nothing at all other than slight color change.  This cup tasted like plain Greek yogurt and that's really the only flavor that I tasted the entire way.  Totally boring and totally unwanted.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If I wanted plain yogurt, I would have bought plain yogurt and since this was essentially plain yogurt with no flavoring at all, it clearly gets a FLY BY IT rating.  It's a nice idea and I love peaches, but this was not a successful way to convey that peach flavor to the customer (me).  It's too bad too, because up to this point, Fage was batting 1.000 on this blog with buy it ratings for all their products.  Oh well, better luck next time.
