Review: Atkins Advantage Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar

I'll just get this off my chest before I start the review:  I think that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the most overrated candy that there is (it's between them and Snickers bars in my book).  Don't get me wrong, they are tasty, but the way that people worship them and seemingly include them in just about every dessert that there is kind of irks me.  Reese's Pieces are so much better and people don't even realize it.  Anyway, that little diatribe is just a harbinger of things to come as I dig into another Atkins review with my review of this Atkins Advantage Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar.  I got this one for free via a promotion on the Atkins website, but the rest of the pertinent stats include a weight of 2.1 ounces and nutritional facts of 240 calories with a generous nineteen grams of protein.

As you can see from the above photo, the name of this bar pretty much describes it all as this is a basic bar.  The interior of the bar is just a mix of peanut butter and other ingredients (it's more of a creamy peanut butter mix) along with an bar that has an exterior coating of semi-hard chocolate.  You can also tell just by the smell that sweetness is going to be part of the bar as well.  Outside of that, there's not anything else going on with this, so let's jump into the taste.

Remember that comparison to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that I used in my intro paragraph.  Well, there's a reason for that and once you take a bite of this, you'd understand why.  In my book, this tasted nearly identical to a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup except that the chocolate was a bit more chewy and not as soft as the candy product itself.  Also, the peanut butter wasn't as grainy as the Reese's product, but outside of that, it was pretty much the same.  Semi-sweet and hearty and that's all it was.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I said, despite the fact that I think Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are overrated, I still think they are good and I'd say that about this bar too and give it a BUY IT rating.  Nothing about this bar is going to surprise you in anyway other than to say that it is a tasty bar and definitely worth eating if you can find it at the right price.
