In my continuing effort to expand my horizons and also to vary the content on this blog to something other than ice cream, Greek yogurt and nutrition bars, I've been trying to pick up a wider variety of products and that includes yogurt smoothies. That attempt at expansion of my horizons leads me to this review of a Lifeway Lowfat Kefir Probiotic Blueberry Yogurt Smoothie that I picked up at Kroger for $1.25. This smoothie measures eight fluid ounces and has 140 calories with eleven grams of protein. It also is gluten free, kosher, probiotic and has ten active milk cultures, which Lifeway calls that mix their proprietary "ProBoost."
Opening this up, the first thing I was met with was a wonderful blueberry smell. Being that I truly love blueberries, that strong permeation of blueberry as a greeting to this yogurt smoothie was a welcome invitation for me. As I poured it into the shot glass above for closer examination, it poured quite quickly and actually overflowed the shot glass in like a millisecond, so it is a bit runny. That said, it's thicker than a regular yogurt cup, but since it is a smoothie and drinkable, you can't really expect it to be chunky. Color-wise, it had a faint blue/purple hue to signify the blueberries and there were tiny bits of blueberry in the yogurt mix as well.
In terms of taste, it carried a very nice and noticeable taste of blueberry. It was alternately sweet and tangy and was an excellent representation of the real fruit. Since it was yogurt, it also had that cooling component with each gulp and being that I had just gotten done working out, that cool and healthy drink was something that I especially enjoyed. Like I mentioned above, it was a bit runny, but it truly wasn't all that bad and like I also mentioned above, it was a smoothie, so what did I expect?
Buy It or Fly By It? This is a nice and safe blueberry product that anyone that enjoys blueberries like myself will certainly enjoy, so it gets a BUY IT rating. If you see this in the store and feel like a drinkable smoothie, snatch this up and I believe that you'll find yourself to be quite satisfied. I know I was.
