Review: Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Nutty Delights Honey Roasted Almond Bar

Every time I see a product touting its fiber content, I can only think of one thing.  Sorry, I have a dirty mind.  I'll try to keep those thoughts to myself though throughout this review of another Kellogg's FiberPlus product with this review of the Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Nutty Delights Honey Roasted Almond Bar.  I picked up a box of five of these at Meijer on sale at Meijer for $2.50.  Each bar in the box is 1.2 ounces and contains 150 calories, three grams of protein and most importantly, 25% of your daily fiber intake (based on a 2,000 calorie diet)!  Wow, I'm sold already!

Okay, so I'm not really sold because I don't care about my fiber intake all that much.  All I care about is how something tastes, but before I taste something I have to see how it looks, unless I'm in one of those weird dinner groups that I see on TV where they go to restaurants and eat blindfolded so that they can "experience" the food better; America is an odd place sometimes.  Anyway, this bar that calls itself a chewy bar is made up of a chocolate base layer that is topped with a very stickly mix of oats, rice crisps and nuts that are bound together by syrup.  In terms of the nuts, the stars of the show are honey roasted almonds (as the name would imply) and also peanuts.  Both nuts are quite large (mind out the gutter, mind out of the gutter...) and also quite plentiful.  The bar also has a strong chocolate smell, so when strong chocolate is mixed with nuts, you've at least got a good recipe for a good bar on paper.

The good recipe on paper carried over to the taste the bar, because this was a good one.  The chocolate was thick and sweet and when mixed with the honey taste of the nuts and the honey binding the bar together, it made for a nice sweet combination.  When combined, it was an almost caramel like taste, which was sort of odd, yet very appealing.  Counteracting that, the nuts provided a nice crunch to the bar when you encountered them as you were chewing through a particularly chew rice crisp/oat mix.  It was a perfect balance of sweet and salty and I would go so far as to say it was a "delight" and yes, my plays on words in this review are getting tired for me too at this point.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I think I've already given this away, but I'll go ahead and type out a BUY IT ruling just for formality's sake.  This was a good and flavorful combination of a bar and truly was a delight to eat.  My only issue is that at full price, these can get a little expensive on a per bar basis, but if you can find them on sale, they are a pretty good value because this is a tasty bar.  The fiber and antioxidant components are just icing on the cake.

BUY IT!!
