Review: KIND Plus Blueberry Pecan + Fiber Bar

For a company that I consider to be one of the "major" bar manufacturers, it surprises me that I have done such a limited amount of reviews on KIND bars.  I'm going to try to change that and this is the first in what I hope will be an increasing frequency of KIND bars that pop up on the blog.  As with all of the previous bars, I picked up this KIND Plus Blueberry Pecan + Fiber Bar for free via a KINDING Mission.  It comes in at 1.4 ounces and has 180 calories with three grams of protein.

Since this is a fiber bar, you can obviously infer that it has a lot of nuts and as you can see from the picture, not only does this bar have a lot of nuts, but that's basically what the bar is 85%ish made up of.  Those nuts include smallish pecans (obviously), HUGE almonds and also large cashews.  The rest of the bar contains the typical rice crisp mix in addition to small dried blueberries and large raisins.  All of this is bound together by a sticky and sweet smelling combination of honey and the other typical syrups that you would see in one of these nutrition bars.

In terms of taste, I expected this bar to be extremely crunchy due to the prevalence of nuts, but what I got was a bar that was mostly soft and quite chewy with the added bonus of pop of a nuts in each particular chew.  What was bizarre about this was that despite the fact that this is named after blueberries and pecans, the prevalent tastes were almonds and raisins, so they did a poor job naming this bar.  In terms of how this mis-named bar tasted, I'd say well above average.  The raisins, blueberries and honey provided a nice mild sweetness with a late arriving tang from the blueberries that balanced out the semi-salty conglomeration of the various nuts.  It was a nice mix and KIND did well putting this together.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This bar is a nut lover's dream and being that your friend the Crazy Food Dude is a major nut lover, this one gets a very strong BUY IT rating.  I liked this bar when I ate it, but now that I'm typing out the review, I'm starting to crave it and it's getting a higher status in my mind the more I type.  Perhaps that's because it is getting close to lunch time and I'm hungry, but perhaps it is also because the bar really tasted that good.  I'm going to side with the latter and if you give this one a taste, I think you'll feel the same way.
